Its rumored to be a done deal but Smid is gonna resign with the Oilers for 4 yrs/$16M ($4M/yr cap hit). Seems like a good deal for both sides, not an overpayment at all. That'll take another guy out of the free agency market early which could drive up prices for d-men this summer. Maybe we can still unload Kuba in the summer.

There's plenty of rumors that Clowe is close to a done deal already and looks like the Bruins lost out on him too. If Clowe is scratched today, you know for certain he's been traded (if its not announced before then).

I would think he goes to Minnesota. Very interested in Clowe.

Some rumours about that Minnesota has been given permission to talk with him, which would indicate that they're working on an extension and it could be the base of that trade happening. If Clowe goes to Minnesota and re-signs, looks like Heatley's days there are numbered, buyout or trade.

But if you ask me I would still take Heatley over Clowe. I didnt watch many Sharks games this year but still..

I am also not sure what are the reason behind this. I mean they have shipped Handzus out of town and are in the midst of the playoff race. I dont wanna see another first round exit.

Heatley is pretty useless these days. Feels like every time I watch a goal/assist he's made on the game highlights, it's on the PP. So he's a 7.5 million PP-specialist.

Clowe won't be worth the 5x5 he's reportedly asking for, but at least he brings a lot more to the table. Between 3.5 and 4 sounds about right for him, but in this crazy overpayment world we live today, not going to happen.

Clowe has to produce on top of the physical in-your-face style to be worth a spot in the top6, which he hasn't done this season. Sharks have other cheaper options to play in the bottom6, and from the looks of it, seems DW isn't too keen on retaining him at around 4 million.

Zeus was nothing more than a 4th line center, again Sharks have better (as in faster) options than him to use in that position.

So essentially, DW traded a bottom pairing d-man that was 8th in the depth chart, and most of the time a healthy scratch 4th liner, for a 2nd, a 3rd that could turn into a 2nd and a 4th. Sounds pretty good to me.

Bouwmeester to the Blues for a 1st round pick and two prospects...

Wow, the BLues got robbed. And he was GM of the year in 2012? WOW

I don't think the Blues got robbed. The 1st is conditional on them making the playoffs, and Bouw isn't a UFA. Solid trade for both sides.

He gets 7.5. Wow that is way too much. I would still put him in our lineup :sarcasm:

And if they dont make it , they get the 1st round pick in 2014.

Still dont like it, hope they will miss it.

Also, Blues take on his whole salary. 6.6 million is still way too much

Not a smart move at all by the Blues as I think they surely overpaid. Sucks since I want them to do well and now sitting in 9th place may still not send Bouwmeester to the playoffs.

I like the trade for the Blues. This allows Shattenkirk and Pietrangelo to freely roam while each have defensive-minded linemates in Jackman and JayBo.

yeah I agree this deal makes sense for the Blues. Bouw should compliment Pietrangelo perfectly and being signed long term isn't that bad of a thing. A conditional 1st is pretty fair value.

But they could be without a 1st and 2nd this yr so that might not be good. With the acquisition of Leopold too, maybe they trade one of their d-men now. Not enough ice time for Cole, Russell, Redden and Polak to share. I think they could move Russell for a decent pick IMO.

Yes, but 2014 is not as strong a draft as this year and the Blues are a very good team. Even though Panthers fans have a bad taste in their mouth from Bouwmeester's last months here, it doesn't take away from the fact that he's still a #1 d-man. He's definitely overpaid though, I won't deny that.

Makes you wonder what we could have got for him back when he had a year left and didn't want to be here. But no Cohen wants to keep him and we end up with a third and Leopold. Seeing that the Blues traded for Leopold the day before who gets to wear #4? :naughty:

This sucks. I liked seeing St Louis doing well. Now that Blow is on their team they'll never see the playoffs again.
