Heatley is pretty useless these days. Feels like every time I watch a goal/assist he's made on the game highlights, it's on the PP. So he's a 7.5 million PP-specialist.
Clowe won't be worth the 5x5 he's reportedly asking for, but at least he brings a lot more to the table. Between 3.5 and 4 sounds about right for him, but in this crazy overpayment world we live today, not going to happen.
Clowe has to produce on top of the physical in-your-face style to be worth a spot in the top6, which he hasn't done this season. Sharks have other cheaper options to play in the bottom6, and from the looks of it, seems DW isn't too keen on retaining him at around 4 million.
Zeus was nothing more than a 4th line center, again Sharks have better (as in faster) options than him to use in that position.
So essentially, DW traded a bottom pairing d-man that was 8th in the depth chart, and most of the time a healthy scratch 4th liner, for a 2nd, a 3rd that could turn into a 2nd and a 4th. Sounds pretty good to me.
