2012-2019 HFBoard Prospects ranking vs games played

Since this is the time of the year where we rank our prospects I had some fun compiling the game played for our prospect ranking. I think we can say that we collectively failed at evaluation prospects. We still could have some surprising riser for the 2019 ranking.

Longest to develop award: Jake Evans was ranked 6 times, and I expect him to end at the top of the ranking for most years, even first in 2017 at the end of his career.

It's not the draft ranking but the hfboard prospect ranking. Some prospects were ranked multiple years. The first number is the ranking.

Always fun to look back and see how wrong we usually are.

1st rounders tend to be overrated while later round prospects are massively underrated.

We also failed most of the time to find the #1 prospect. Should only happen in 2016 and maybe 2018

We always see that this year crop is better than the year before but in our case this year is not comparable to any other prospect pool we had. We will maybe have Ylonen rank outside of this top 10 year draft ranking and he will mostly play in the NHL on the top 9 next year

It's the same every years, at best we can hope to have at least 2 or 3 players getting more than 500 GP, and maybe 5 more as fringe NHLers. I still feel that the current crop is better than past years though.

The good NHL scouts are no better than 50% accurate. Fans? Probably 10-20% accurate.. the ones who know what they are doing anyways

Crazy how absolute garbage the drafting has been. Even 2017 that was supposed to be a strong cohort for Timmins ended up being a dud.

I am not a Timmins fan at all but Brook and Ikonen were really unlucky with injuries. Poehling looks like a 4th line center and we still have Primeau who might be a starter one day.

Looking at this chart, it’s strikes me how similar chucky and gally’s careers have been statistically, yet gally is seen to have been the way more successful hockey player.
