</p>The New York Rangers returned to the postseason in the 2010-11 season, but it was not an overly auspicious year in general for the club. As a result, the fringe playoff team did not make a lot of deadline moves – as they would in the coming years – that would diminish their draft ammunition substantially. They did bring in veteran Bryan McCabe in exchange for Tim Kennedy and a third round selection, but did really nothing further during the season.… read more

Good write up on Miller, while I think he was a pretty safe pick at the time he's progressed nicely. Took him a bit to find his groove and the kind of player he wanted to be. His offensive skill really came to fruition when he made it a point to play a more hard nosed game, along the boards and in on the forecheck. The rest of that draft seem to be duds, too bad.

In fairness, that draft was all over the map once you got outside of the top 10.

Five years later and there's not an awful lot of star talent spread around the draft.

The first round has some nice names but no one spectacular. The Lightning had a great draft though. Kucherov in the second round, Nesterov in the middle, Palat in the seventh. And there's Gaudreau in the fourth. Probably the best player from that draft.

Definitely a draft that you had to your research and hope for some good fortune.

A draft like Tampa Bay had really lifts a franchise.

Miller has been a good pick so far.

Too bad we didn't have that 2nd rounder, most mocks had us taking Kucherov.

Speaking of the 2nd round, 21 of the 30 players have played 20 NHL games by the age of 23. That's the most 2nd rounders with 20 plus games in the last ten drafts.

Miller was a good pick. I see a consistent 20-30 goal guy in him, playing with an edge. I know some soured on him when he didn't make an immediate impact. He's a good reminder that prospects don't always develop along a consistent positive trajectory--peaks and valleys and whatnot. Patience is a virtue with young players and we're beginning to see the payoff with Miller.

Well and many overlook how rare it is for a kid to play in the AHL at basically 19 (turned 20 in March of 12-13). Let alone be called up during that time. I think Miller was in a bit over his head (especially in the NHL) but was forced to be because our other option was Kris Newbury. Which soured people's perceptions on his abilities a bit.
