</p>With their first playoff appearance after just six years removed, the Calgary Flames continue to develop in the right direction with their current system of prospects, coaches and management in place. One bright spot this past season was Micheal Ferland, who was one of six players picked by Calgary in the 2010 NHL Entry draft. Ferland provided a physical presence during the first round of the playoffs, along with timely offensive contributions to help eliminate the Vancouver Canucks.… read more

He did a lot of good for this team. But he traded to many picks.

Shuuda cudda wudda:

2008, 17th and 25th
2009, 20th,49th and 51st
2010, 13th, 43rd

Those 5 picks, could have been cheap young building blocks...

Omg we could've had Jaden Schwarz or Tarasenko :(
Not really, Sutter was the GM. He wouldn't have taken a Russian or a guy from the USHL. He likely would have selected Austin Watson

Ferland was a bright spot in the post season, but to say this group is providing current depth is an outright lie.

Unless your team is on pace for president's trophy or close to it, Sutter taught me the hard way never to trade 1st or 2nds.

I wouldn't say "never", but definitely don't do it for multiple drafts in a short timespan. Some of his trades were awesome ones (the 1st for Cammalleri, 2nd for Kipper), but he did go overboard trying to stock up on established NHLers via trade.

a lie? The draft produced a couple of AHL players in the system (plus Ferland), which is the very definition of depth.
The 2 AHL players that actually say NHL time played a combined total of 5 games in the NHL. I believe you should give credit where it is due, but in this case there is nothing to see. The 2010 draft has done very litte to help the Flames to date, even in terms of depth.

Probably meant depths in terms of prospects not on the current NHL squad.

I agree, given the picks we had (F U Sutter) the draft served its purpose. We have two potential kids who could be good bottom 6 or cross our fingers for Ferdaddy a guy who could play on the top 6. Still gave hopes for Reinhart
