lol clearly you are remembering wrong because it was Ovy ahead or equal, the debate was up in the air daily but if anything it favored Ovy those years.

That's my memory of the time frame as well.

for those questioning whether or not he was the best player during that time frame, a reminder that this ovechkin won 3 straight ted lindseys and if he played the full 82 games in the 09-10 season, he would've swept the trophies again (art ross, rocket, and hart), which would have made him the reigning 3 time hart winner, which is absolutely ridiculous, something i believe gretzky was the last one to do

There were a LOT of people that said Crosby was better at the time no matter what Ovechkin did.

how quickly you all forget about the greatness that was 2007-2010 Wojtek Wolski

all i see is slick hands here.

Winning The rocket years after years and finishing the the top hits, the way ovechkin played was just out of this world.

i dont care about all the eras, but Ovechkin is the greatest goal scorer of all time

Most dominant three seasons in a row since '05? Yep.

Most dominant offensive player? Questionable.

Most dominant player overall? Crosby.

You can't use the "if" excuse for Ovechkin. He didn't miss all those games due to injuries, he brought it on himself with his suspensions

He missed a few to injury in 2010 which did influence the scoring race. His grandfather also passed away at the beginning of the 2008-09 season and he missed 3 games. He could have won the Art Ross in both seasons had he played the games.

Crosby vs. OV over their first five years is an interesting debate. More regular season success for OV, more playoff success and a Gold for Crosby.

Malkin too can be argued to be better at his best as well as on per-game basis.

I'd argue Datsyuk 05-09 was it.

317GP, 118G, 250A, 368P, +137

404 Takeaways (2nd best: St.Louis at 282)
54.9% on faceoffs (10th among those with 3000+ FOs)

Imo the most dominant possession player post-lockout. Impossible to take the puck from, on another level at taking the puck from others. Almost never penalized, best defensive forward in the league, and one of the very best offensively (4th in points during that time).

Ovi isn't even the best hockey player Russia has produced, never mind best ever.
