I was only 7 and I still remember exactly where I was when I found out. I knew this day was coming up.

As for whether it was good or bad for hockey... Bob McKeown makes a great case for it being terrible for hockey, in his book that came out last year. I can't help but agree. It gave the NHL a false sense of security - the USA never really cared about hockey, some celebrities in LA just cared about Gretzky briefly. Bettman has taken that false sense of security and ran with it and look what's happened now.
