I live in Ontario and am about to become a coach... couple of questions

1. Do you have to take a coaching course or can the head coach just sign you as part of the team?

2. Do i have to take a drug test? (i smoke very rarely but did 2 weeks ago)

please and thank you

Ya you do have to take a course I believe if you are coaching a minor hockey team. and new this year to you have to were helmets on the ice when coaching. And depending on what level, you may have to take additional courses to.

I know that I had to take a course called "Speak Out" in order to coach last year.

You must be certified by Hockey Canada. That means you must take one of their clinics, which are put on by the provincial branch. It is up to you to find out when the next one is in your area.

You must also take the Speak Out clinic. This has to do with things like abuse prevention, etc.

Last, but not least, you will have to complete a criminal record check before you will be allowed to coach.
