Consider all players at their absolute best during the time frames listed. If a 7 game series went down who wins?

I think the younger team wins on D but 90s wins overall.

Explain me how please. Cuz if we take every player listed there as their best past 1990, there is no way that the younger squad is better than old one. 0 argument.

I said the 90s team was better but I think the 2000s defense is better overall. Not by a lot but better

90s ainec. Defense is the closest between the 2 but goaltending and forwards make it pretty clear who to go with.

Hard to bet against Lemieux, Gretzky, Hasek. I think people saying ainec are exaggerating. Zetterberg-Datsyuk-Bergeron would shut down any line in history.

Yes but Fedorov, Messier and Yzerman wouldn’t be slouches there either. Obviously Stevie Y a step below the other 5 defensively, but the Stevie Y that was winning Cup was still very good on D.

I think Messier would be a seriously weak link relative to most of the 2000’s guys.

What rules we playing under? Stevens loses a lot of value if he is suspended all the time. Heck, I would put his Devils partner on the team instead under modern rules. Pronger would also have to adjust his game, but would be easier for him.

Crazy to think Neely wouldn’t be on the 1990s team, but 1990 was his last healthy year (at 25!). 70 goals over 71 games covering his age 26, 27 and 28 seasons. In my mind he was a super star in the early 90s...but he just didn’t play enough.

The 90s had probably the best collection of top end talent, to the point that the 2000-2004 period is pretty much irrelevant to this comparison. The older team is better at forward, defence and in net. Older team in five.

From 1990-2004? Gretzky wasn't at his absolute best. I think it would be far closer than people would imagine.

I disagree with the defense part, and the forwards and peak versions of those goalies are extremely close.

Lidstrom being on the wrong team makes this appear closer than it is. Even Pronger is borderline.

Lidstrom won more Norris trophies after 2005 than before, and did you see Pronger from 2005-2011 in the regular season and playoffs? Complete dominance, on 3 different teams.
