I like the flames here. Better down the middle and on defense. And they were a tougher team.

Nieuwendyk - Gilmour - Otto is really strong at center.

Flames were 54-17 that year. Oilers were 38-28.

Its hard to vote against a forward group as good as Messier,Kurri,Anderson,Tikkanen, Kid Line

but that calgary defense is frightening.

if you look at purely player for player, That Calgary team might be top 7 all time.

Edmonton
Montreal
Boston
Islanders
Penguins
Late 90's Wings
Flames

That 89 Flames team might be close to the best depth of any Stanley Cup champion. A lot of great players throughout the roster.

I don't get this poll. Comparing a President Trophy winning Stanley Cup team that often goes down as one of the best teams of all time to a random Oilers group that couldn't even win half their games that season?

Biased, but take some of the powerhouse Gretzky 80s teams and put them up against the firing on all cylinders 89 team of the Flames and I think it's coin-flips. But the 90s Oiler winning team just is never going to go down as one of the best winners, like at all.
