What is the highest two picks that these four picks could be consolidated into?

Is something like #12 and #30 possible?

I'd love for Yzerman and Army to do some chitchatting to swap all four for #10 and #29 but that's probably unlikely.

More likely would be to trade say with Arizona's #12 since they already have #6 (unless they're looking to move up?) and someone else to move up the two 2nds.

(ultimate goal is to secure Wood and Willander while maintaining #9).

I think we all have the tendency to think of it like the NFL draft and assign draft pick value but it doesn't quite work exactly the same for the NHL. Trading down tends to be predicated on a team thinking they can land the guy they would have taken regardless, but they could get the player player while adding an extra asset.

When Anaheim traded #12 for #17 and #28 at the 2008 Draft, the rumor was that they were targeting Erik Karlsson. The plan nearly worked but then Ottawa traded up from #18 to #15.

In general most teams don't like to trade down more than a few spots since they'll have a particular guy in mind and they'd want to avoid a situation where they get sniped. Comparable trades since the lockout:

2005: Atlanta traded down twice, turned #8 into #16, #41, #49, #207

2008: Anaheim traded down twice, turned #12 into #17, #35, and #39

2012: Calgary traded #14 for #21 and #42

2021: Dallas traded #14 to Detroit for #22, #47, and #137

2022: San Jose traded #11 to Arizona for #27, #34, and #45

--------

And then one problem that can arise is that a lot of the teams picking high accumulated extra picks at the trade deadline. So they may have the same idea and aren't necessarily looking to add more picks.

10. St. Louis - have two first rounders, but missing 2nd
11. Vancouver - missing 2nd, maybe a candidate to trade down
12. Arizona - already have a bunch of picks and drafted 19 guys over the last two years.
13. Buffalo - already have a stockpile of prospects
14. Pittsburgh - decent candidate to trade down
15. Nashville - typically there's some PR pressure for the host team to trade up not down, although Chicago did move down in 2017.

Goal is unlikely.

buffalo did 21 and 42 for 14 in 2012.

there is usually a big drop from 12 to 17.

buffalo could trade down from 13 to 17. Florida advances, thr Isles pick is sd 16.

17th already assumes Florida advances.

Not a draft to trade down unless someone wants to go off the board

Yes and no. There are sizable clusters of similarly ranked players. If you have a specific one in mind you want to jump up. If you don't care much you can pick up assets to slide back a bit. It will probably be very fluid pick to pick to see if anyone wants to move.

Buffalo would be smart to stock up on assets in 24/25. They will likely want to make TDL moves. They might trade back into the 20s for a good roster player on D, if you have one hanging around.

All depends on how the board plays out.

Here's a value chart.
