1979-1984:

November 7, 1979 -- In the first series meeting, the Flyers scored four straight goals and held on for a 4-3 victory at Quebec. Real Cloutier scored 1:44 into the game then John Smrke made it 2-0 in the second period. Later in the second, Bob Kelly (2-0-2), Brian Propp and Rick MacLeish gave Philly a 3-2 advantage. Kelly made it 4-2 in the third period. The Nordiques were outshot 42-25 and Michel Dion made 38 saves. Paul Holmgren and Dale Hoganson fought.
December 13, 1979 -- In the first ever meeting in Philadelphia, Reggie Leach scored with 1:51 to play and the Flyers out-scored Quebec 5-3 in the third period en route to a 6-4 win. The team's unbeaten streak was extended to 25 games. The score was 1-1 through two periods but Quebec took a 3-1 which lasted until 9:08 remained. After a goal by Dennis Ververgaert, Bill Barber evened the score with 7:18 to play. Leach (2-0-2) and Barber (2-1-3) scored twice. Barber and Linseman (0-3-3) each collected three points in the third period. Real Cloutier (1-2-3) led Quebec and Michel Dion made 34 saves. The teams combined to score the last four goals in a span of 69 seconds with the Flyers scoring three times.
March 27, 1980 -- Brian Propp (2-1-3) had three points in a span of 3:08 and Pete Peeters made 22 stops in the Flyers' 5-2 home win. Bobby Clarke (1-2-3) also had three points. Dennis Ververgaert (1-1-2) had his second goal in his last 23 games. Jack McIlhargey bloodied Paul Stewart (later, an NHL official) in a fight.
April 1, 1980 -- Phil Myre made 37 saves in the Flyers' 3-3 tie at Quebec. Ken Linseman's wrist shot beat Goran Hogosta to tie the game. Reggie Leach scored his 47th goal. Real Cloutier scored twice for the Nordiques, including his 40th of the season.
August 11, 1980 -- John Paddock was sent to Quebec in return for an undisclosed cash total.
September 15, 1980 -- Andre Dupont was traded to Quebec for cash and a 7th round draft choice. The trade left four members of the Stanley Cup Champions still with the Flyers -- Bobby Clarke, Bill Barber, Rick MacLeish and Jim Watson. "I've been treated very well by this organization and these fans, especially these fans," said Dupont upon learning of the trade.
November 1, 1980 -- Down 2-0 in the third, the Flyers scored three straight, including two by Bill Barber, in a game that ended tied 3-3 in Quebec. The Flyers three goals came in a span of 7:18. Jaime Hislop got the tying goal for the Nordiques.
November 9, 1980 -- Pete Peeters made 26 saves and the Flyers clicked twice in the third period in a 3-1 victory. Tom Gorence scored the GWG 35 seconds into the final period while Bill Barber added an insurance goal on a 5-on-3. Moose Dupont returned to Philadelphia for the first time since his trade.
January 15, 1981 -- Michel Plasse made 36 saves including all 18 shots in the third period of Quebec's 4-1 win in Philadelphia. It was the Nordiques first win in this series. Ex-Flyer John Paddock snapped a scoreless tie in the opening minute of the second period. Quebec led 2-1 after two periods and scored twice on six shots in the final period. The Flyers held a 32-12 shots advantage over the last two periods but were out-scored 4-1.
February 7, 1981 -- Daniel Bouchard made 38 saves and Quebec went 4-for-8 on PPs in their 5-3 home win. Anton Stastny (2-0-2) scored two of Quebec's four PPGs. Robbie Ftorek scored in the game's opening minute and Quebec led 2-0 at the 5:59 mark. Stastny's first PPG gave the Mordiques a 3-2 lead and his second PPG came early in the third period, which made the score 5-2, during a major to Paul Holmgren. Brian Propp got into a rare fight, with Alain Cote, at the end of the second period. Mel Bridgman had a brief fight with Peter Stastny earlier in the second period and then picked up offsetting misconducts with Dale Hunter in the game's final two minutes.
April 8, 1981 -- In Game 1 of their Preliminary Round Series at Philly, the Flyers held a 45-20 shots advantage, including 15-3 in the decisive third period, in a 6-4 win. Paul Holmgren snapped a 3-3 tie 1:41 into the third period. Al Hill increased the lead to 5-3. Quebec scored a PPG at 17:55 but the Flyers clinched the win with an ENG. Brian Propp (2-1-3), who scored twice in the first period, Ken Linseman (0-3-3) and Bill Barber (2-0-2) paced the offense. Philly led 3-1 after one but the score was tied 3-3 after two. Rick St. Croix made 16 saves in the win. Quebec's offense was led by Anton Stastny (2-1-3), Peter Stastny (0-3-3) and Michel Goulet (1-2-3) and Dan Bouchard made 39 stops. With 24 seconds remaining, a fight totalled 146 PIMs (63 to the Flyers, 83 to the Nordiques) including 12 10-minute misconducts.
April 9, 1981 -- In Game 2 at Philly, Bill Barber's (3-0-3) hat trick led the Flyers to an 8-5 win. Barber began the scoring 2:07 into the game and three seconds after a Dale Hunter minor expired. Barber scored later in the first period then completed his hat trick in the second period on a SHG after he stripped the puck from Anton Stastny which led to a thundering ovation inside the Spectrum. Barber later said "I was tickled to death. I never had a cheer like that." The Flyers led 3-1 after the first intermission and 5-3 through 40 minutes despite giving Quebec four powerplays (to zero) in the middle period. Ken Linseman made it 6-3 but the Nordiques narrowed the score to 6-5 with 6:35 to play before Mel Bridgman extended the lead and Bobby Clarke added an ENG. Dan Bouchard (18 saves, 24 shots) was replaced by Michel Plasse (5 saves, 6 shots). Bridgman (2-1-3) and Al Hill (0-3-3) also had three points and Pete Peeters made 20 stops. With 33 seconds remaining, Behn Wilson and Robbie Ftorek were involved in a skirmish escalated when Peeters (19 PIMs) intervened. That scrap totalled 114 PIMs (53 to the Flyers, 61 to the Nordiques) including four 10-minute misconducts.
April 11, 1981 -- In Game 3 at Quebec, Dan Bouchard made 32 saves, Michel Goulet (1-1-2, 8 shots) snapped a scoreless tie 9:48 into the third period and Peter Stastny (1-1-2) added an insurance goal with under three minutes to play in Quebec's 2-0 win. Bouchard entered the game with a lifetime PO mark of 1-13. Rick St. Croix made 29 saves for the Flyers. The game was mainly quiet through the first two periods as the Flyers were assessed just three minors and Quebec only one. Late in the third period, minor battles resulted in three fighting majors to each side.
April 12, 1981 -- In Game 4 at Quebec, Dale Hunter's OT goal 37 seconds into OT evened the series 2-2 and gave Quebec a 4-3 OT win. The Nordiques trailed 3-1 hole with less than five minutes remaining in the third period but Hunter scored on Quebec's first shot of the third period then 93 seconds later Jacques Richard evened the game with 2:52 to play in regulation. Terry Murray's shot off the opening faceoff was misplayed by goalie Dan Bouchard and seven seconds into the contest the Flyers led 1-0. The lead increased to 3-1 after one period and it stayed that way until the dramatics late in regulation. Rick St. Croix and Dan Bouchard both made 19 saves.
April 14, 1981 -- In Game 5 at Philly, the Flyers scored three times in the opening 5:07 of the third period and eliminated the Nordiques 5-2 in the deciding game of the Best-of-Five series. The line of Ken Linseman (1-2-3), Paul Holmgren (1-1-2) and Brian Propp (1-1-2) was a major part of the surge as each scored and combined for seven points in the decisive third period. Linseman began the barrage just 18 seconds into the period followed by Holmgren's goal at the 2:38 mark. Linseman, who was chosen the game's number one star, and Dale Hunter were issued misconducts 17 seconds after the Flyers pulled ahead 5-1. The Flyers controlled the puck throughout the contest. Phily held a 19-4 shots advantage in the first period but Dan Bouchard was stellar and Rick MacLeish and Anton Stastny swapped late goals less than a minute apart. Al Hill scored 10 minutes into the second period to give Philly a 2-1 lead. The Flyers held a 37-18 shots advantage. Pete Peeters made 16 saves. Bouchard made 32 stops. SERIES RECAP: The home teams won all five games. Ken Linseman (2-8-10), Paul Holmgren (2-4-6) and Al Hill (2-4-6) led the offense. Pat Quinn said the line of Al Hill, Mel Bridgman and Tom Gorence was "outstanding" in shadowing the Stastnys. The Nordiques were led by Peter Stastny (2-8-10), Anton Stastny (4-3-7), Michel Goulet (3-4-7), Dale Hunter (3-3-6) and Jacques Richard (3-3-6). Reggie Leach, who was benched for Game 4, had no points. Bobby Clarke (1-0-1) had just one point. Rick MacLeish (1-1-2) had just two points. Bill Barber was scoreless in the final three games after five goals (5-0-5) in the first two contests. Rick St. Croix stopped 64 of 74 (.865) shots and Pete Peeters was 36-for-43 (.837). Dan Bouchard stopped 140 of 159 (.881) shots; Michel Plasse was 5-6 (.833). Quebec owned a 19-6-5 record in 29 games since acquiring goalie Dan Bouchard in late January. Philly was just 4-5-5 in the last 14.
October 22, 1981 -- The Flyers scored three times in the opening period, with Ilkka Sinisalo (0-2-2) assisting on the latter two, en route to a 3-2 home victory. Brian Propp gave Philly a 1-0 lead. Reggie Leach scored his 8th goal in his 6th game of the season. Rick St. Croix made 20 saves in the victory. Marian Stastny (2-0-2) scored in the second and third periods for Quebec. Michel Plasse made 34 saves.
January 19, 1982 -- Brian Propp's PPG with under eight to play gave Philly a 2-2 road tie but team leader Bobby Clarke suffered a broken left ankle which sidelined him for the next 18 games. Rick St. Croix and Dan Bouchard both starred with St. Croix making many point blank saves. Ray Allison fought twice vs. Pierre Aubry and Mario Marois ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O4Xe2QYWv8c ). Ilkka Sinisalo returned to the Flyers' lineup after missing ten games with a cracked wrist bone; he picked up an assist. The next day, the Flyers acquired Darryl Sittler from Toronto.
February 6, 1982 -- The Flyers fell to 0-5-4 in the last nine games with a 4-3 loss in Quebec. Real Cloutier (1-1-2) and Marian Stastny (1-1-2) were among five Nordiques who had two points.
October 7, 1982 -- Mark Howe made his Flyers' debut in Philly's 9-5 season-opening victory in the Spectrum. Howe was bloodied the first time on the ice as a pass from teammate Paul Holmgren deflected and clipped him in the mouth; however, Howe scored on his first shot to make it 3-2 in the second period. With the game tied 5-5 in the third period, the Flyers tied a team record by scoring three times in 35 seconds and added a fourth in a span of 2:06. With former Flyer Rick Lapointe in the box, Brian Propp's PPG gave Philly a 6-5 lead and then Bill Barber and Ray Allison followed immediately to boost the advantage to 8-5 with 10:17 remaining. The Flyers were led by Allison (1-3-4), Barber (2-1-3), Bobby Clarke (0-3-3) and Dave Michayluk, who, in his second career NHL game, scored the only two goals in his 14-game regular season career and was named the game's top star. Barber also scored in the game's opening minute. Seventeen Flyers' skaters registered a point (Tom Gorence, the exception). Peter Stastny (2-1-3), who scored two PPGs in the first period, Marion Stastny (0-3-3) and Mario Marois (0-3-3) had three points for Quebec.
October 16, 1982 -- Bobby Clarke (2-0-2) scored twice in the Flyers' 4-3 road win. The Flyers trailed 2-0 after one period on two goals by Real Cloutier. The Flyers then scored the next four including goals by Clarke in the opening minutes of the second and third periods. Philly outshot Quebec 38-22 including 30-12 through 40 minutes but the score was deadlocked 2-2.
December 9, 1982 -- Ron Flockhart scored twice and Pelle Lindbergh made 27 saves in the Flyers' 4-1 home win. Paul Holmgren added a goal and an assist. Ron Sutter, who played as part of a 10-game NHL stint prior to a return to Lethbridge, gave Philly a 2-0 lead with his first NHL goal. The Flyers outshot Quebec 38-28. October 25, 1983 -- The 6-2-1 Flyers beat the 7-2-1 Nordiques 4-2 in Quebec. Bobby Clarke was named top star of the game, much of it due to his defensive work. Ray Allison (1-1-2), Tim Kerr and Rich Sutter, who scored in his second consecutive game after being acquired in a trade, gave Philly a 3-0 lead. Pelle Lindbergh made 18 saves. Quebec outshot Philly with a low total of 20-17. The game also had just five minors called.
October 27, 1983 -- Dave Poulin's SHG with 5:16 to play helped to lift the Flyers to an eventual 4-3 home win. The goal gave the Flyers a 4-2 lead but Tony McKegney scored 13 seconds later to make it 4-3. Rich Sutter scored in his third straight game as a Flyer, the first player in team history to accomplish the feat. Rick MacLeish had two assists.
January 14, 1984 -- Brian Propp tied the game with 1:59 to play in a 3-3 tie at Quebec. Bob Froese made 36 saves. Each of the three Stastny's had two points. Dave Poulin and Miroslav Dvorak each had two assists. Thomas Eriksson scored with 45 seconds left in the second period to cut Quebec's leads to one goal.
December 6, 1984 -- Pelle Linbergh (31 saves) and Dan Bouchard (38 saves) dueled to a 1-1 draw in Philly. The three Stastnys were held to a combined four shots and Peter Zezel was a large reason. Bruce Bell scored a first period PPG then Tim Kerr matched him in the second period.

1985-1989:

February 14, 1985 -- Tim Kerr (2-1-3) and Brian Propp (1-3-4) scored in the opening period and led the Flyers to a 6-3 home win. Ron Sutter snapped a 2-2 tie late in the second period. Kerr's second goal upped the lead to 4-2 in the third period. Quebec was 3-for-5 on PPs.
March 2, 1985 -- Paul Gillis scored twice to lead the Nordiques to a 4-2 home win. The Nordiques went ahead 2-1 with a pair of goals scored within 50 seconds in the first period. Quebec pulled ahead 4-1 in the second period with two goals scored in 18 seconds. Mario Gosselin made 27 saves. The Flyers were 6-0-2 in the prior eight games against Quebec.
May 5, 1985 -- In Game One of the Wales Conference Finals at Quebec, despite sensational goaltending from Pelle Lindbergh, who made 42 saves, the Flyers dropped a 2-1 decision when Peter Stastny scored on a 55-footer 6:20 into OT, his second straight OT GWG. Quebec and Philly swapped third period goals, the Flyers' goal credited to Brad McCrimmon when the Nords' Pat Price redeflected a shot into his own net. Mario Gosselin had 28 saves in the victory. While Dave Poulin returned to the lineup after missing all the NYI series and most of the first round matchup against the Rangers with a ligament tear in his left knee, the Flyers' Tim Kerr suffered a strained right knee and was lost for the balance of this series. Quebec advanced to the Conference Finals against the Flyers by defeating Montreal in Game 7 on a Stastny goal. The Nords, despite having 22 fewer regular season points (91-113), had the home ice advantage since=2 0the Adams Division had more wins in head-to-head competition against the Patrick in the regular season (playoff format at the time).
May 7, 1985 -- In Game 2 at Quebec, Pelle Lindbergh made 27 saves and the Flyers' played an impressive game of forechecking and team defense in defeating the Nordiques 4-2. Dave Poulin scored a SHG in the first period, off a terrific feed by Murray Craven ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DNj7WnKgc2U ), then Ilkka Sinisalo and Craven (1-1-2) connected in the second for a 3-0 lead after two periods. Joe Paterson made it 4-1. There were three fights in the first period including Rick Tocchet-Pat Price ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=73NehVBEPIQ ) 30 seconds into the game. Lindsay Carson fought Wilf Paiement in the middle of the first period ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I2wjOd1WBJg ) and about five minutes later Doug Crossman fought Paul Gillis. Paterson fought Gillis in the second period. Poulin suffered suffered cracked ribs courtesy of Mario Marois' stick-work and also a left knee injury which happened immediately following his goal.
May 9, 1985 -- In Game 3 at Philadelphia, Joe Paterson (1-2-3) and Len Hachborn (0-3-3) played important roles during the Flyers 4-2 win. Paterson, who fought Randy Moller 16 seconds into the game, tied the score 2-2 early in the second period and then assisted on the PP GWG by Ilkka Sinisalo later in the period. Pelle Lindbergh made 21 saves. The Flyers outshot Quebec 35-23. The Flyers went 3-for-6 on the PP. For the third straight game, the Flyers suffered a key injury. Brad McCrimmon was driven from behind by Wilf Paiement and lost for the rest of the POs, including the Stanley Cup Finals, with a separated left shoulder that required surgery. The Flyers dressed five d-men in the game for the third consecutive game in this series leading to increased playing time for Ed Hospodar and among the heroes was Brad Marsh, whose shot-blocking skills were on display in the contest, rewarded as the game's number one star. Hospodar said of the hit "It was from behind, it could have been charging or boarding." Afterwards, Paiement said "If he's hurt, that is too bad. Maybe he just tripped himself as he went into the boards." However, Doug Crossman said "In here, (Flyers' dressing room), we call it a dirty check" while Mike Keenan said "It was definitely a foul, a charge. I am not sure why the ref (Bryan Lewis) didn't call it."
May 12, 1985 -- In Game 4 at Philadelphia, Mario Gosselin made 34 saves and the Nordiques recorded a 5-3 victory to even the series. It was the Flyers' first home loss in 21 games and first since February 2. Dale Hunter scored on a 60-footer with three seconds left on a five-minute major to teammate Peter Stastny to give Quebec a 1-0 lead. The Flyers trailed 2-0 and 3-1 but tied the score in the third period with the team's third PPG. Alain Cote scored 4:32 into the third period for the GWG and Brad Maxwell added a PPG to conclude the scoring. Philly went 3-for-5 on the PP and outshot Quebec 37-21. In the two home games, Philly scored seven goals and went 6-for-11 on the PP. The Flyers were without Tim Kerr, Dave Poulin and Brad McCrimmon. Dave Brown was tossed from the game in the first period.
May 14, 1985 -- In Game 5 at Quebec, Pelle Lindbergh's sensational play included 30 saves and the duo of Murray Craven and Joe Paterson, the two players acquired in a controversial preseason trade, scored in the third period leading Philadelphia to a dramatic 2-1 home win. In between the second and third periods, in what was generally considered a listless 40 minutes by the Flyers, head coach Mike Keenan tossed a table of beverages and then stood atop challenging his players in a towering display of admonishment and requisition. Afterwards, Craven said "Mike said we didn't show we were hungry enough and that they wanted it more than we did. Mike gave us a very stiff talking to." Paterson's PPG, his third goal of the series (the only three in his Flyers' career) 1:00 into the third, tied the score and then Craven tallied with under five minutes left. Craven's goal, which he later called "my most important ever," was the result of a perfect 2-on-1 play off a feed from Brian Propp. Paterson and Craven were acquired by GM Bob Clarke the day prior to the regular season opener from Detroit for Darryl Sittler. Dave Poulin added inspiration when he returned with a flak jacket despite broken ribs. With 2:10 to play, Quebec had a goal disallowed by ref Kerry Fraser who ruled Peter Stastny kicked the puck into the net. After the game, Nordiques' head coach Michel Bergeron, later fined $5,000 for his outburst, showed various video clips to a group of about 50 reporters saying his team was unfairly treated by the refs. He also said "Something is going to happen next game." Of particular frustration was what he felt was an Ed Hospodar spear against Anton Stastny in the third period; Peter Stastny retaliated and earned a five-minute cross-checking major compared to two minutes for Hospodar. Rick Tocchet and Randy Moller fought 22 seconds into the game. In the last minute of the opening period, Paterson and Jimmy Mann fought a few seconds after Tocchet and Wilf Paiement were issued 10-minute misconducts. J.F. Sauve gave Quebec a 1-0 lead with a 5-on-3 PPG midway through regulation. Quebec outshot Philly 31-21.
May 16, 1985 -- In Game 6 in Philly, Dave Poulin's electrifying goal and Pelle Lindbergh's 15 saves helped the Flyers oust Quebec 3-0 and advance to the Stanley Cup Finals to face Edmonton. Rick Tocchet put the Flyers up 1-0 after the first period. The Flyers faced a daunting challenge at the 1:08 mark of the second period when Joe Paterson (0:31) and Brian Propp (1:08) were in the box due to separate minors putting the team at a 5-on-3 disadvantage. Poulin, wearing a flak jacket to protect broken ribs suffered because of Mario Marois's stickwork earlier in the series, intercepted a blue-line pass from Marois and skated the length of the ice for a breakaway goal (at 2:01) which instantly became a classic play in team and NHL history ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0regyljId0A ). Later in the second, Doug Crossman added a PPG. The Flyers held a 36-15 shots advantage. Mario Gosselin, in the loss, made 33 saves. Pat Price of Quebec said "They executed to perfection. They won every inch of the ice. I know my face was up against the glass all night." Alain Cote, of the Nordiques said, "They played hockey tonight the way the game should be played. That's what real hockey is." SERIES RECAP: Pelle Lindbergh surrendered just 10 goals in six games. Joe Paterson (3-3-6), Brian Propp (2-4-6) and Murray Craven (3-1-4) were the leaders on offense. Ron Sutter's defensive work against Peter Stastny, who later said "The Flyers were disciplined throughout the series," was exemplary. Four Nordiques had four points apiece, including Michel Goulet (0-4-4) but he was held to zero goals despite scoring 50+ the last three regular seasons and eleven in the 11 prior 1985 PO games.
October 17, 1985 -- Mark Kumpel (2-0-2) scored twice and Richard Sevigny made 42 saves to back the sizzling Nordiques, who began the season with a 5-0-0 mark, to a 2-1 win at Philly. The Flyers dominated with a 43-14 shots advantage including 20-11 in the first period, 9-1 in the second period and 14-2 in the third period. Despite holding a 29-12 shots advantage through two periods, the Flyers trailed Kumpel and the Nordiques 2-1. The Flyers also outshot Quebec 23-3 over the last two periods but were out-scored 1-0. November 2, 1985 -- The Flyers led 4-0 through one period and skated to a 5-3 win at Quebec. The four goals were scored in a span of 7:39. Ilkka Sinisalo (2-0-2, both in the opening period) and Lindsay Carson (2-0-2) each scored twice. Pelle Lindbergh made 22 saves.
February 1, 1986 -- Clint Malarchuk made 32 saves and Bob Froese had 29 stops and were chosen the top two stars in a 2-2 tie at Quebec. Ron Sutter and Ilkka Sinisalo gave Philly a 2-0 lead but Brent Ashton and John Anderson scored midway in the third period. Philly scored twice in the second. Rick Tocchet cut Claude Julien in a fight.
October 30, 1986 -- Brian Propp (1-3-4) led the offense, Ron Hextall made 33 saves and the Flyers had a 3-0 lead in the first period en route to a 6-3 win in Philly. During second period hostilities, the Flyers' Ed Hospodar picked up a five-minute charging major which led to an enraged Dale Hunter being penalized then ejected as he chastised officials from the penalty box. Quebec trailed 4-1 as the third period started but out-shot Philly 17-2 over the final 20 minutes. Scott Mellanby's brilliant goal, his second in the NHL, gave Philly a 5-1 lead. The Flyers' PP went 2-for-3 shaking off a 6-for-50 season-long slump. Brad McCrimmon returned to the lineup after missing the season's first nine games over a contract dispute.
March 21, 1987 -- Doug Crossman scored a PPG with 2:06 to play and Glenn Resch made 34 saves in a 2-2 tie at Quebec. Clint Malarchuk made 28 saves and Peter Stastny (1-1-2) had two points for Quebec. Each team committed just two minors.
March 26, 1987 -- Dave Poulin scored in OT and Ron Hextall made 28 saves to lift the Flyers to a 3-2 home win. Tim Kerr, who assisted with Brian Propp on the OT winner, scored his 55th for the Flyers. Michel Goulet (2-0-2) scored two PPGs for Quebec but was on the ice for all three Flyers' goals. There were three fights in the game: Don Nachbaur-Basil McRae, Rick Tocchet-Randy Moller and Scott Mellanby-Mike Hough.
November 28, 1987 -- The Flyers scored four unanswered goals in a span of 6:30 in the second period en route to a 6-3 victory in Quebec. Leading 4-3 in the third, the Flyers got goals from Ilkka Sinisalo (1-1-2) and Mark Howe, with Dave Poulin (0-3-3) and Brian Propp (0-2-2) assisting on both goals. March 31, 1988 -- Willie Huber (1-1-2) scored the only third period goal to give the Flyers a 4-4 tie at home. Huber, in his final NHL season, played in just 10 regular season for the Flyers. Dave Poulin scored twice (2-0-2). Mario Gosselin made 39 saves in cluding 17 on 18 shots in the 3rd period and OT. Michel Goulet had his 45th and 46th goals for the Nordiques.
April 2, 1988 -- The Flyers out-scored the Nordiques 5-1 in the second period (despite being outshot 15-12) en route to a 7-4 win in Quebec. The Flyers scored three times in 39 seconds including two goals by Murray Craven 29 seconds apart in the opening three minutes of the second period. Mark Howe and Craven (2-0-2) scored 10 seconds apart then Craven followed his own goal with a second score 29 seconds later to make it 3-1 Flyers 2:59 into the second period. Peter Zezel (1-2-3) had three points in the second period. Kjell Samuelsson and Ilkka Sinisalo (2-1-3) were both credited with being +5. Ron Hextall made 32 saves. Quebec was led by Marc Fortier (0-4-4), Lane Lambert (1-2-3) and Michel Goulet (2-0-2). Mario Brunetta surrendered seven goals and started, likely, because Quebec had a game the following night against the Rangers and a loss by New York would have given the Nordiques two draft picks in the top five of the upcoming draft (Michel Bergeron left Quebec to become the Rangers' head coach in June 1987).
July 25, 1988 -- Greg Smyth and a 1989 third round draft pick (Quebec chose John Tanner) were sent to the Nordiques for Terry Carkner.
October 20, 1988 -- Terry Carkner, acquired in the summer from Quebec, had three (1-2-3) points including his first goal as a member of the Flyers in Philly's 5-2 home win. Ron Hextall made 22 saves. Doug Sulliman, acquired off waivers earlier in the month, scored his first Flyers' goal to even the game 2-2 less than a minute after the Nordiques tied the game. Scott Mellanby made it 3-2 late in the opening period. Ron Sutter (1-1-2), who made it 4-2, Tim Kerr (0-2-2) and Brian Propp (0-2-2) each had two points. Rick Tocchet fought ex-Flyer Greg Smyth.
November 19, 1988 -- The Nordiques recorded a 6-5 victory in Quebec which ended the Flyers 9-game (6-0-3) unbeaten streak in this series. The Flyers led 1-0 but then the teams alternated goals in pairs. Quebec led 2-1 (two goals in 1:02), then Philly scored the next two (3-2 lead, two goals in 46 seconds), then the Nords scored twice (4-3 lead after one period, two goals in 1:15), then the Flyers followed with two goals (5-4 lead after two periods), then Quebec responded with two third period goals. Seven goals were scored in a span of 9:24. Mark Laforest (15 saves, 19 shots) was replaced by Ron Hextall (15 saves, 17 shots) following the first period. January 13, 1989 -- Murray Craven (1-4-5), Ron Sutter (2-2-4) and Mike Bullard (2 goals) led the Flyers' offensive attack in a 7-2 destruction in Philadelphia. Ron Hextall made 22 saves and had one assist. The Flyers third goal came with five seconds left in the first period and gave them a 3-0 lead.
October 12, 1989 -- The Flyers led 3-0 at the 8:34 mark and held off a Quebec rally to win 4-2 in Philly. The Nordiques scored twice early in the third period to narrow the margin to 3-2 but Pelle Eklund, in his season debut, halted the comeback. Rick Tocchet (1-1-2) started the scoring with a PPG. The Flyers dominated the first period 12-3 in shots and 3-0 in goals and entered the game with the franchise's first 0-3-0 start.
December 9, 1989 -- In one of the oddest endings to any Flyers' game, Joe Sakic (2-2-4) scored on a penalty shot with 23 seconds to play then Lucien Deblois netted the game-tying goal with seven seconds remaining in the third period of a 6-6 tie in Quebec. Sakic was awarded the penalty shot when referee Paul Stewart ruled that Ken Wregget intentionally dislodged the net during a scramble. Following the faceoff, Wregget negated a possible icing call when he played the puck which led to a confusing conclusion near the goal crease. Rick Tocchet was ejected for an accidental high-stick late in the opening period. Philly led 3-0 fourteen minutes into the game, then held leads of 3-2, 4-2, 4-3, 5-3, 5-4 and 6-4, the sixth goal coming with under five minutes to play in the third period. March 17, 1990 -- Iiro Jarvi snapped a 3-3 third period tie and Sergei Mylnikov made 28 saves for what would be his lone NHL victory in his 10-game (1-7-2) NHL career in Quebec's 6-3 home win. Joe Sakic (2-2-4) had four points and scored 41 seconds apart in the final 1:11.
October 18, 1990 -- Celebrating his birthday in style, Normand Lacombe rescued the Flyers by scoring the only third period goal in a 5-4 home win. Philly led 3-0 at the 9:32 mark with led to the removal of Ron Tugnutt (3 saves, 6 shots) to John Tanner (31 saves, 33 shots) and the change gave the Nordiques' squad a boost. Less than a minute later, Scott Mellanby and Steven Finn fought. Joe Sakic (2-1-3) scored consecutive goals then Quebec added another to tie the game 3-3 through the first period. The teams split second period goals. Philly outshot Quebec 39-18. Five different Flyers scored. It was the Flyers' first home game after the death of Kathy Kerr, the 30-year old wife of Tim Kerr who passed away two days earlier.
November 10, 1990 -- Rick Tocchet scored one of the quickest goals in team history just 12 seconds into the game and the Flyers led 4-1 through the opening period of a 5-2 win at Quebec. Tim Kerr (1-2-3), Tocchet (1-1-2), Gord Murphy (1-1-2) and Pelle Eklund (0-2-2) had multi-point efforts. Scott Gordon (3 saves, 6 shots) was replaced by Ron Tugnutt (17 saves, 19 shots) at the 10:35 mark and Philly ahead 3-1. Pete Peeters made 16 stops for the victory.
January 17, 1991 -- Ron Hextall made 25 saves, Rick Tocchet (1-1-2) had two points and Scott Mellanby had the GWG in the first period of Philly's 5-1 home win. Mike Ricci and Ron Sutter scored second period goals to give Philly a 4-1 lead. Craig Berube and Steven Finn fought. Terry Carkner was a +4 as was Kerry Huffman in his first NHL game since November 11.
October 17, 1991 -- Andrei Lomakin (2-0-2) scored consecutive goals and the Flyers responded to a 3-0 deficit with five straight goals en route to a 5-3 home win. Ken Wregget (4 saves, 7 shots) was replaced by Dominic Roussel (12 saves, 12 shots), who made his NHL debut, after the Nordiques made it 3-0 in the second period. Following Lomakin's two goals, Mike Ricci evened the game 3-3 later in the second period. Mark Pederson and Brad Jones scored 35 seconds apart in the third period. Rick Tocchet surpassed Paul Holmgren with the most PIMs in team history. February 8, 1992 -- Ron Hextall made 30 saves, including 14 in the third period, to lead Philly to a 3-0 victory in Quebec. Dale Kushner, Mark Pederson and Mark Freer scored and Claude Boivin had two assists. Following the afternoon game, the Flyers boarded a plane for Fort Lauderdale and had a three-day mini-vacation in South Florida.
February 13, 1992 -- With the three-day work-and-play trip to South Florida behind them, the Flyers recorded a 3-2 home win against a Quebec team that was 0-22-5 on the road at that point in the season. Mark Freer scored the GWG. Kerry Huffman (2-0-2) scored the Flyers' other goals off assists from Rod Brind'Amour (0-2-2) and Kevin Dineen (0-2-2). Both teams had five PP opportunities in the first period. The Flyers went 0-for-8 on the PP while Quebec was 2-for-10. Mats Sundin (2-0-2) had two PPGs. Philly held a 15-3 shots advantage after one period and 29-16 for the game. Prior to the game, the Flyers honored former player Reggie Leach and legendary broadcaster Gene Hart as recent selections to the team's Hall of Fame.
June 30, 1992 -- The much publicized deal involving Eric Lindros was finalized. The Flyers sent Mike Ricci, Peter Forsberg, Steve Duchesne, Ron Hextall, Kerry Huffman, Chris Simon, a 1993 1st round pick used to select Jocelyn Thibeault, a 1994 first round pick used to select Nolan Baumgartner and $15 (US) million. On June 27, arbitrator Larry Bertuzzi, ruled the Nordiques no longer held Lindros' rights and that either the Flyers or New York Rangers would receive the player. Quebec drafted Lindros with the top pick in the 1991 NHL Draft but Lindros refused to sign with the team. The Nordiques conducted trade talks with as many as seven teams the night before the 1992 NHL Draft. Both the Flyers and Rangers maintained valid deals with the Nordiques made June 20. Bertuzzi, the arbitrator, eventually ruled the Flyers-Nordiques' verbal deal, which came at 10:30 a.m. on June 20, was valid and not the trade with New York more than an hour later. More than a month later, on July 21, a revised trade was finalized since the original and still unconfirmed deal made prior to the 1992 Draft included the Flyers' 1992 first round pick (the Flyers chose Ryan Sittler). Still in July, Bertuzzi ruled that the teams had to agree on a player and a pick to compensate Quebec for not having the Flyers' 1992 first-round pick. The teams agreed upon Simon but the Flyers wanted to include a 1994 2nd round pick and the Nordiques preferred a 1st rounder, the arbitrator ruled in favor of Quebec. Said Flyers' head coach Bill Dineen "It wasn't us that made the mistake. It was Quebec that went ahead and made the deal with New York. Now, we're paying the extra penalty. September 19, 1992 -- Eric Lindros (1-1-2) had two points and played approximately 25 minutes in his first NHL game, a 4-3 preseason win over the Nordiques in front of 17,226 in the Spectrum. The goal, against Stephane Fiset, came on a 5-on-3 man advantage as did Mark Recchi's GWG which Lindros set up. September 20, 1992 -- Quebec recorded an 11-4 preseason home win against a team that did not include Eric Lindros. Joe Sakic had a hat trick and Mike Ricci (1-4-5) had five points. Nordiques' goalie Ron Hextall picked up a 10-minute misconduct for yelling at the referees and also challenged Flyers' skaters as the teams left the ice after the first period. Tommy Soderstrom gave up ten goals behind a porous defense. Kevin Dineen snapped his stick and tossed it into the crowd earning him an ejection.
October 13, 1992 -- Eric Lindros made his much anticipated Quebec debut but the Nordiques won 6-3. Mike Ricci (2-0-2) scored the GWG while on the PP with 3:57 to play and Mats Sundin (1-2-3) picked up three points in a four-goal third period. Ricci started the scoring 59 seconds into the first period after Lindros, on his first shift, drilled Bill Lindsay but that left Ricci open in the slot. Steve Kasper's SHG made it 1-1 about four minutes later. Philly was whistled for four minors in the first 6:55 of the game (Quebec had zero). The Nordiques led 2-1 after an early second period tally by Mike Hough. Lindros scored twice (PPG then a SHG) in the third period sandwiched by an Alexei Gusarov goal. At that point , it was 4-4 then Ricci, Steve Duchesne (with 2:17 to play) and Sundin (ENG) finished the scoring. Lindros had one possible goal overruled (deflected by his hand after he and goalie Ron Hextall jostled for the loose puck) and another shot that rang off the pipe. Duchesne was penalized for leveling Lindros along the boards to the delight of the home crowd which mocked Lindros throughout the game. Some wore diapers over their clothing, had pacifiers in the mouths and atop faux Stanley Cups and some pushed baby carriages through the halls. Many items were tossed onto the ice including baby bottles, eggs, batteries, coins and even a .22 caliber bullet. Lindros said "If I ever have a child, I am set for life with pacifiers." Nordiques' President Marcel Aubut said "That's not bad in show business. Usually, the beginning of the season is quiet. As far as the business side, I'd like to have him here every night. Maybe we should have sent him in our own division." The Flyers were 13-2-4 in the last 19 regular season games played in this series prior to the defeat.
December 3, 1992 -- Claude Boivin (1-1-2) scored in OT to lift the Flyers to a 3-2 home victory. Mats Sundin tied the score in the final minute of regulation. Stephane Beauregard made 23 saves for what would be one of his three wins with the Flyers. Quebec's Ron Hextall made 31 saves in a loss. Mark Recchi, who had 14 goals and 23 assists (in 17 games), failed in trying to tie Bobby Clarke's team record of points in 18 straight games. January 28, 1993 -- Rob Pearson (2-0-2) scored twice and Stephane Fiset made 22 saves in Quebec's 6-3 win at Philly. Stephane Beauregard (7 saves, 10 shots) was replaced by Dominic Roussel (11 saves, 14 shots) following the first period. Kevin Dineen scored two PPGs for the Flyers.
March 27, 1993 -- Valeri Kamensky (2-3-5), Mats Sundin (2-2-4), Steve Duchesne (1-2-3), Andrei Kovalenko (2-0-2) and Ron Hextall (34 saves) led Quebec to an 8-3 home win. Sundin's 40th goal gave Quebec a 4-2 lead early in the second period. Eric Lindros made his second trip to Quebec and was booed throughout the contest. Tommy Soderstrom (19 saves, 25 shots) was replaced by Dominic Roussel (7 saves, 9 shots).
October 26, 1993 -- Dominic Roussel made 30 saves in the Flyers' 4-2 victory at Quebec. Eric Lindros, in his third game at Quebec, gave the Flyers a 4-0 lead with under two minutes to play in the second period. Josef Beranek (1-1-2) took part in the first two goals and his 10th goal led the NHL at the time. It was the Flyers seventh win in the last nine games.
November 4, 1993 -- Dominic Roussel made 27 saves, including 17-for-17 in the second period, and Eric Lindros' (1-0-1) point streak increased to eleven games, in Philly's 4-1 home win. The Nordiques went 0-for-6 on PPs and surrendered SHGs to Dave Tippett and Rod Brind'Amour. Mikael Renberg's PPG gave Philly a 3-1 lead in the third period. Quebec had two shots in the first period but 17 in the second period. The Flyers improved to 19-3-0 in the team's last 22 regular season games (covering two seasons) and Roussel won for the 14th time in his last 15 decisions.
December 16, 1993 -- Mark Recchi snapped a 2-2 tie late in the second period, Mikael Renberg (1-1-2) had two points and Dominic Roussel made 16 saves in Philly's 3-2 home win. Garth Snow made 32 saves in a loss for Quebec. The Flyers held a 35-18 shots advantage including 15-4 in the middle period. Eric Lindros returned to the Flyers' lineup after missing the prior 14 games due to a knee injury; the Flyers went 5-8-1 without him.
January 25, 1994 -- Quebec scored three straight goals in the third period en route to a 6-4 win. Quebec led 2-0 through one period then the Flyers scored three times in a span of 1:56 to pull ahead 3-2 in the second period. After Garry Galley gave the Flyers a 4-3 lead 33 seconds into the final period, Reggie Savage (one of his five NHL career goals) and Mike Ricci (1-2-3) followed. Six Nordiques scored. Stephane Fiset made 27 saves. The Nordiques outshot Philly 42-31. Dominic Roussel made 36 saves and Rod Brind'Amour scored twice. September 13, 1994 -- Andre Faust scored a hat trick in this preseason game won 5-4 by the Flyers in Quebec. The contest featured six fights including Eric Lindros vs. Chris Simon ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lh1lGFR0mcU). Ryan McGill was in three separate fights.

1995-1999:

January 21, 1995 -- Stephane Fiset made 29 saves and the Flyers' PP went 0-for-7 in a 3-1 home loss in the delayed (shortened season due to a lockout) season opener. Owen Nolan scored the GWG on a PP in the third period on a disputed goal that Flyers' goalie Ron Hextall said "I am 100% sure that goal was a joke." The video reviews available to replay judge Mike Condon were inconclusive but an additional replay shown only on the center ice scoreboard indicated a kick. January 31, 1995 -- Joe Sakic (1-3-4) had four points and Stephane Fiset made 20 saves in Quebec's 5-2 home win. Eric Lindros evened the game and Josef Beranek gave Philly a 2-1 lead. Sakic then tied the score 2-2 in the first period and assisted on the next three goals including Uwe Krupp's PP GWG midway through regulation. The Flyers' PP went 0-for-7 while Quebec was 2-for-7. Rob Zettler and Wendel Clark fought in the first period.
February 16, 1995 -- Stephane Fiset made 38 saves and Owen Nolan scored the only two first period goals in leading Quebec to a 4-2 win at Philadelphia. The Flyers outshot the Nords 18-3 in the third period. February 23, 1995 -- The Nordiques and Flyers met for the final time and played to a 6-6 tie in Quebec. The Flyers went 4-for-4 on PPs and held a 6-3 lead with under 11 minutes to play. Quebec's lone PPG, by Owen Nolan, made it 6-4 then Adam Deadmarsh scored consecutive goals in the final five minutes with the tying goal coming with 1:34 remaining. Eric Lindros (3-1-4), in his last appearance at Quebec, scored in each period. Lindros had 10 points (7-3-10) in six appearances at Quebec but the Flyers won just once (1-4-1). John LeClair (1-3-4) also had four points. Ron Hextall made 40 saves for the Flyers. The Nordiques outshot Philadelphia 46-34, including 42-22 over the last two periods and OT and had 20 shots in both the second and third periods. Kevin Haller fought Deadmarsh in the first period. Rob Zettler and Wendel Clark fought in the second period. Dykhuis and Nolan fought later in the second period. Dykhuis, in his Flyers' debut, scored to make it 1-0, had a fight and two minors for nine PIMs.
July 12, 1995 -- Colorado traded Garth Snow to Philadelphia for the Flyers' 3rd (later traded to Washington who selected Shawn McNeil) and 6th (Kai Fischer) round choices in the 1996 Entry Draft.
January 4, 1996 -- Garth Snow made 35 saves and Kjell Samuelsson scored his first goal of the season with 4:03 to play in the third period in a 2-2 tie at Colorado. The Avalanche led 2-0 until Eric Lindros scored with four seconds remaining in the second period. Colorado outshot the Flyers 37-22 including 18-4 in the first period and 34-10 after two periods but the Flyers held a 12-3 edge in the third period and OT combined.
February 11, 1996 -- Colorado scored four times in the third period including Claude Lemieux's (1-2-3) goal with 1:53 remaining en route to a 5-3 win at Philly. Peter Forsberg (3-0-3) recorded his first NHL hat trick by adding an ENG. January 4, 1997 -- The Flyers rallied from a three-goal deficit in a 4-4 tie at Colorado. The Avalance led 2-0 at the 1:51 mark but Eric Lindros scored at 2:39 the Colorado's Keith Jones made it 3-1 9:11 into the opening period. Mike Keane made it 4-1 early in the second period. Dale Hawerchuk scored in the second period then Trent Klatt and Mikael Renberg added goals in the latter half of the third period. The Flyers outshot Colorado 44-29 including 14-6 in the third period and 4-1 in OT. Garth Snow made 25 saves and Patrick Roy stopped 40 shots. With Colorado leading 4-1, Dan Kordic fought Brent Severyn then 18 seconds later Daniel Lacroix, who was ejected, fought Wade Belak.
March 23, 1997 -- In a late-season matchup of Conference leaders, Ron Hextall made 19 saves and recorded his 19th shutout and Pat Falloon and Joel Otto scored in the Flyers' 2-0 home win. Joe Sakic suffered a deep laceration in his left calf from the skate of the Dale Hawerchuk and was sidelined for the next 17 games.
November 13, 1997 -- Patrick Roy made 30 saves and beat the Flyers for only the second time during the regular season and Joe Sakic and Uwe Krupp scored 68 seconds apart midway into the second period to lead Colorado to a 2-1 win at Philly. Shjon Podein scored the Flyers' goal. All three goals were scored within a span of 2:27. There were two fights in the opening 1:46 of the contest including Brantt Myhres, in his first shift as a Flyer, defeating Francois Leroux.
February 7, 1998 -- Eric Lacroix's third period goal completed a rally in Colorado's 3-2 home win. John LeClair (1-1-2) gave the Flyers a 2-0 lead 14:41 into the game. However, Sandis Ozolinsh's PPG with 23 seconds left in the first period began the comeback. Stephane Yelle's SHG tied the game in the final two minutes of the second period. The Flyers had two goals disallowed. Philly's Colin Forbes was tossed near the game's midway point when Chris Therien was whistled for a slashing minor. Patrick Roy's career record against the Flyers improved to 3-11-8.

November 12, 1998 -- Colorado traded Keith Jones to the Flyers for Shjon Podein.
February 14, 1999 -- John LeClair's third period goal gave the Flyers a 4-4 tie in Colorado. Keith Jones (1-1-2) and Eric Lindros (0-2-2), who extended his point streak to 16 games in which he had 33 (13-20-33) points, led the Flyers' offense and John Vanbiesbrouck made 27 saves. The Flyers led 3-1 midway through the game but the Avalanche scored twice in a 59-second span in the third period and took a 4-3 lead. Valeri Kamensky had three (1-2-3) points.
March 11, 1999 -- Patrick Roy made 33 saves, Chris Drury scored twice and Peter Forsberg had three assists in Colorado's 5-3 win at Philadelphia. The Flyers failed to win for the ninth straight game as part of a skid that reached 12 (0-8-4). Eric Lindros led Philly with a goal and an assist. Mark Recchi, acquired from Montreal the prior day, scored for the Flyers. John LeClair's consecutive games streak ended at 317, with a hip injury suffered the prior game.
October 28, 1999 -- Valeri Zelepukin scored with 8.2 seconds left in OT to rescue the Flyers 5-4 in Philadelphia. Zelepukin's shot was an intended pass to Chris Therien but it hit the pad of goalie Marc Denis and went into the net. Colorado trailed 4-0 but Alex Tanguay started the comeback with 14:30 left in regulation then followed it up 3:13 later to make it 4-2. Milan Hejduk then scored with 7:44 remaining and again 1:13 later to tie the game 4-4. The four goals came on eight shots in a span of 8:09. Eric Desjardins made it 3-0 with two-tenths of a second left in the middle period and Mark Greig gave the Flyers a 4-0 lead 2:08 into the third period. The Flyers' Mark Recchi (1-2-3) and Daymond Langkow (0-3-3) and Colorado's Adam Deadmarsh (0-3-3) each had three points. Recchi increased his lifetime offense to 18 goals and 35 points in 31 games against the Quebec/Colorado franchise. The Flyers outshot the Avalanche 34-27 inclusing 8-3 in overtime. JVB picked up the victory by making 23 saves.

2000-2009:

March 12, 2000 -- Joe Sakic (1-1-2) had two points in Colorado's 3-1 home win. The Flyers were outshot 31-15 including 11-2 in the third period. Raymond Bourque made his home debut with the Avalanche. Patrick Roy made 14 stops for the victory. Brian Boucher made 28 saves. Eric Lindros played his last regular season game for the Flyers as he was scratched from the following night's game in Phoenix with what was eventually diagnosed as a concussion.
December 13, 2000 -- The teams played to a 3-3 OT tie in Colorado. A lengthy review confirmed Simon Gagne's goal with eight seconds to play in regulation after he redirected a puck out of mid-air with the shaft of his stick and glove and said later "I just tried to go at the net and tried to tip it. And it hit my glove and my stick. My hand never left the stick." Patrick Roy commented that "It hit his glove and he made a forward motion. To me, it is enough to uncall the goal. It is hard for the official to make the right call. He was in a tough position with a lot of people going to the net." The officials also reviewed the play to see if Keith Primeau touched the puck with a high stick. Flyers' head coach Bill Barber remarked "Primeau came to me right off the bat and said 'Coach, there's nothing to worry about. They can look at any angle they want.' My concern was why the double review?" Daymond Langkow recorded three points (0-3-3) for the Flyers and set up the tying goal with a terrific feed. The Avalanche tied the game 2-2 then Milan Hedjuk made it 3-2 during a four-minute PP issued when Kevin Stevens was called for high-sticking. The Flyers held a 4-3 shots advantage in OT and 31-25 in the game.
December 29, 2001 -- Roman Cechmanek made 31 saves and Chris Therien (0-3-3) had three assists in the Flyers' 5-2 win at Colorado. Simon Gagne and Keith Primeau (1-1-2) both had two points. The last time the Flyers won in Colorado was in January, 1981 against the Colorado Rockies.
March 16, 2002 -- Patrick Roy made 36 saves and Ville Nieminen scored with 4:36 to play in Colorado's 2-1 win in Philadelphia. The Flyers outshot Colorado 37-18, including 18-5 in the third period. It was estimated that the Flyers were in the offensive zone for 28 minutes and they held Colorado without a shot for a 14-minute stretch in the third period. The Flyers lost for a fourth straight time at home, a first since the 1989-90 season.
December 27, 2002 -- Eric Desjardins scored on the first shot in OT and the Flyers recorded a 2-1 win in Colorado. Desjardins cut to the net and scored on a backhander in the slot off a perfect feed from Jeremy Roenick. The game was scoreless until Colorado made it 1-0 early in the third period. Roenick evened the game with 4:17 left in regulation. Roman Cechmanek was brilliant as he made 34 saves. Simon Gagne left the game after suffering a cut on his forehead and near his right eye and he missed the next five games.
March 8, 2003 -- Colorado's Peter Forsberg (2-0-2) scored on the only shot in OT in a 2-1 win in Philadelphia. Each team scored PPGs in the second period, Forsberg gave Colorado a 1-0 but Kim Johnsson scored about two minutes later and 18 seconds into a PP. Patrick Roy and Roman Cechmanek each made 28 saves. Joe Sakic had nine shots.
December 27, 2003 -- Milan Hedjuk scored in OT to give Colorado a 3-2 home victory. Joe Sakic tied the scored with 1:17 left in regulation. Sami Kapanen gave Philly a 1-0 lead on a SHG midway in the second period, it was the Flyers first 1-0 lead covering the last 15 games -- nearing a dubious record of 17 set by the expansion Washington Capitals.
January 14, 2006 -- Alex Tanguay's goal completed a totally dominating OT for the Avs when he scored with 45.8 seconds to play in a 4-3 win in Philadelphia. Colorado, which outshot the Flyers 9-0 in the extra period, had a 3-1 lead with less than three minutes to play in regulation but goals by Mike Knuble (1-2-3) and Peter Forsberg (1-1-2) tied the game. Along with Simon Gagne (0-3-3), the trio accounted for eight of nine points in Forsberg's first game against his former team. The paid attendance of 19,953 set a Flyers' home record.
December 7, 2007 -- Milan Hedjuk's goal with under three seconds left in the second period gave the Avalanche an eventual 2-1 win at home. Danny Briere tied the score with a PPG with 2:05 to play in the second. Martin Biron made 30 saves while the Avs' Jose Theodore made 28. October 16, 2008 -- Joe Sakic (0-3-3) had three assists, five different players scored and Colorado went 3-for-11 on the PP in a 5-2 home win. Colorado led 2-0 and held a 17-3 shots advantage in the first period. The Flyers' goals came via Simon Gagne's SHG on a penalty shot and Mike Richards' 5-on-3 PPG in the second period. Cody McCormick scored in the final minute of the second period to make it 4-2. Paul Stastny made it 5-2 with a 5-on-3 goal. Colorado outshot Philly 34-18. December 16, 2008 -- Antero Niittymaki made 29 saves and backed the Flyers to a 5-2 win which ended a home losing streak in this series that dated back to October 28, 1999. Mike Richards (1-2-3) and Simon Gagne (1-2-3) led the offense. Mike Knuble's PPG tied it 1-1 and Jeff Carter's SHG gave the Flyers a lead never relinquished at 2-1. November 23, 2009 -- Colorado recorded a 5-4 home win holding off a late Flyers' rally in which Philadelphia dominated the third period. The Avalanche scored three straight goals in the second period to take a 5-2 lead but the Flyers outshot Colorado 19-4 over the final 20 minutes. Paul Stastny (1-2-3) and David Jones (2-0-2) led the offense and Craig Anderson made 30 saves. Danny Briere (2-2-4) and Jeff Carter (2-0-2) scored each Flyers' goal. Carter's PPG made it 5-4 with 4:39 to play. Brian Boucher (13 saves, 14 shots) replaced Ray Emery (13 saves, 17 shots). October 11, 2010 -- Jeff Carter scored twice, including the tie-breaker with 2:38 remaining, in a 4-2 home win. Sergei Bobrovsky made 25 saves in his second NHL start. The Flyers led 2-0 but Milan Hejduk tied it 32 seconds into the third period. Carter was whistled for goalie interference with 1:18 to play but goalie Craig Anderson neutralized the call with embellishment. Darroll Powe added an ENG seven seconds later. December 19, 2011 -- J.S. Giguere stopped Matt Read in the third round of the shootout and Colorado skated to a 3-2 SO home win. The first five shooters in the SO were successful including Ryan O'Reilly's go-ahead goal. Giguere made 31 saves during the game. Danny Briere scored with 19 seconds left in regulation. Scott Hartnell (1-1-2) had two points. Ilya Bryzgalov made 25 saves. The Flyers held an 8-0 shots advantage to start the game. Chris Pronger, Claude Giroux, Brayden Schenn and Sean Couturier all missed the game due to injuries.
October 31, 2013 -- Steve Downie was traded to the Flyers for Max Talbot.
January 2, 2014 -- Semyon Varlamov made 29 saves and the Avalanche edged the Flyers 2-1 in Colorado. Ryan O'Reilly and Jamie McGinn gave Colorado a 2-0 lead. Steve Mason made 29 saves. Flyers' forward Michael Raffl suffered a concussion in the first period after being checked into the boards.
February 6, 2014 -- Steve Mason, who struggled with cramps and dehydration for much of the second part of the game, starred and made 38 saves in the Flyers' 3-1 home win. Mason said after the game, "You name it, it was cramping." Mark Streit's PPG early in the second period snapped a scoreless tie. Michael Raffl made it 2-0 in the third period. Sean Couturier (0-2-2) assisted on both goals and made a key play by separating a Colorado defender from the puck behind the net. Nathan MacKinnon scored with 2:50 to play. Claude Giroux scored an ENG with 20 seconds to play. Patrick Bordeleau was tossed with 1:32 left in the first period for a checking-from-behind major but the Flyers failed to score and part of the major was offset by a Wayne Simmonds minor. Simmonds later negated an icing to set up the ENG goal. Semyon Varlamov made 32 saves and was named the game's third star. The Flyers won the last 11 faceoffs and 18 of the final 22. At one point in the third period, Colorado was a +13 in draws (31-to-18) but the Flyers ended up winning 36 and losing 35. Prior to the game, the Flyers aired a video to honor the legacy of Keith Allen, the team's first head and general manager during the two championship clubs, who passed away earlier in the week. November 8, 2014 -- The Flyers led 4-0 through two periods and held on for a 4-3 home win in a game helped determined by special teams. Claude Giroux (2-1-3) and Jake Voracek (0-3-3) led the offense and Steve Mason made 36 saves. The Flyers' PP was 3-for-6 and the PK was 4-for-4. Colorado scored three times on 21 shots in the third period. The Flyers lost the services of defenseman Luke Schenn in the last minute of the first period due to a Luke MacKinnon 5-minute boarding major. Giroux scored two PPGs including one at 19:57 of the opening period to snap a scoreless tie. Wayne Simmonds' PPG made it 2-0 early in the second period on the same advantage major. Giroux's second PPG made it 4-0 during a 5-on-3. The Avalanche cut the lead in half in the first seven minutes of the third period and got to within one goal with 8:22 remaining but could not complete the comeback even when Braydon Coburn, playing in his first game since the October 8 season opener, was given his second minor of the period with 2:49 to play. Ex-Flyer Max Talbot had two points (1-1-2).

One of the few defences in the league that challenges ours for crappyness. EJ and Barrie are pretty good (though Barrie is at times awful on D) the rest are different shades of poor to AHL level.

Their forwards are great fun to watch though.

Supposedly Coburn in and I heard maybe Cola out? Weird that the defense has done well the past two games, I'd almost rather not see that happen. Carlo has looked good, especially holding the point in the offensive zone. We all know Coburn couldn't do that if his life depended on it.

To be fair, they've played average to below average teams in those two games. And Edmonton was missing their best player, and Florida was missing one of their young guns.

I really hope the D can show some consistency, even though they suck on paper. IMO, if Coburn is back, I'd like to see:

Coburn-MDZ
Streit-Schultz/Grossmann
Cola-Schenn

I'd imagine either Cola or Schultz sits, not Schultz or Grossmann, and more likely that Cola sits which would mean we'd have 4 defensive dmen. If that's the case then maybe put Coburn with Schultz and see if Coburn can play the puck mover role effectively?

Think about Flyers having Coburn and MacDonald back already

I think and hope Flyers will clear this, maybe it will take an OT or something but whatever. Voracek is so hot right now, the 5kg's he said he's lost in summertime has shown on the ice. Giroux hasn't been doin' his best yet but he's been fine. With he being on his level and Voracek that kinda level, think about the damage those two will make this season. :yo:

And when it comes to Flyers goalies', It's likely Mason to start the game as said in the first post. He has been reaching his level by every game and is taking his no.1 position back from Ray, all credits to Ray still.

I'd say it's a 5-3 W for the Flyers.

It's still 25h to go btw.

Perhaps the defense would look best like this:

Coburn Streit (probably not the whole game as Coburn shouldn't play 22+ minutes)
MDZ Schultz
Schenn Colaiacavo

Coburn, Schultz and Schenn are the 3 stay at home types that deserve to be in the lineup. Grossman needs to be the odd man out. When they're healthy there's no question that the three pairings should be some combination of

Coburn Streit
MDZ Schultz
Schenn McDonald

Grossman Coliaiacovo

So what does Berube do in this game? Play Schenn and Grossman together? We all know that when McDonald is healthy Schultz will sit and Grossman will play and they will be unable to exit the zone.

They just wanted to dump Parenteau, who had more term. I very much doubt Briere plays. Bordeleau and Winchester is on their way back too. They will be ahead of Danny boy in the pecking order as well.

It's been reported that we will have Reto Berra in net tonight. He has been solid this year but... he is no Varly.

Coburn appears to be playing with Luke Schenn. If so, CC could be the healthy scratch.
