I really hope Biggs can make the team, even up and down as a 4th liner. I don't see the harm in him getting 5-8 mins a night being protected with someone like Orr/McLaren. He is a bottom 6 player anyway.

I don't think strength and conditioning will really ever be an issue with Biggs, he seems like he takes training very seriously.

The issue with him is that he is too tentative. A guy as big and strong as him should play with more fire.

If you guys read the MLHS interview with the Leafs director of player development, Jim Hughes, his answer in regards to Biggs alludes to the same thing. He basically said that Biggs has to come out and really seize the opportunity, and physically impose himself.

He has all the tools to be a beast, he just needs to play more like an angry d-bag. Look at David Clarkson, his raw hockey skills are pretty poor, can't really skate, doesn't pass well or have good vision, and his IQ isn't that high. But he's still a decent NHL player because he has a lot of heart and desire, he plays hard with a mean streak and he has a pretty good shot, and overall he uses his size to advantage by crashing the net and effectively shielding the puck (which is why he's such a good possession player). In comparison, Biggs is a much better skater, also has a good shot, and is a great defensive player whereas Clarkson's defensive game leaves a lot to be desired. The difference is in their desire and how hard they play while effectively using their size; that's where Biggs has to really step it up.

Watching that video, its hard to tell that Biggs is 230 lbs. Not knocking him at all, he clearly has NHL size already at age 20. But if this is how he looks at 230, then look out, this guy can become an absolute monster. He can easily put on another 15 lbs of muscle. 23 is the easiest age to pack on muscle, he still has 3 years before he's 23.

If he keeps this up he's gonna be a biiiiig boy

absolutely no way he's 230, maybe 210 MAX.

I have no idea how much he weighs, he was 205 when we drafted him and 224 to start the OHL season.

I think the acquisition of clarkson will pay dividends when guys like biggs, broll, devane learn from him. If we can get a clarkson 2.0 also on the team that would be huge.

It will be very interesting to see who, if anyone (or hopefully more then 1) steps up of those 3 players.

Biggs has the tools, size, strength, skating, shot, but lacks confidence. He seems to view himself as a guy who needs to get the puck off his stick as soon as possible so other, more skilled guys can make things happen. He needs to realize that with his strength and skating he can drive play by getting to the net, even though he doesnt have high end skill.

Broll has the aggression, and good hands but can he continue to improve his skating to NHL caliber.

Devane needs to improve his skating as well and really be an intimidating presence with his fists and forchecking. His niche is likely as a fighter but he still needs to be able to contribute 5 on 5

There is zero chance Biggs makes the Leafs, not even close to ready.

If a bottom six goes down I could see him getting a game or two.. though ashton and damigo probs have first dibs.

Finner scored for Team White in today's U-20 scrimmage.

I think this kid is a darkhorse to make team Canada.

It would be nice to have our first 2 round picks from 2012 make the team.

I think he definitely has a good chance. If he can come back and stay healthy and play like he did last year, he should be there, especially if one or two guys make the NHL this year, like Reinhart.

Am i wrong for thinking its more likely than unlikey?

Guy has a bomb for a shot, something that seems to be frequently missing from the point on many teams, but the rest of his offensive game is very good too.

And he defends and skates well?

Call me bias, but I love finn. I live in guelph. So smart.

He will make it.

Canada's national jr team will face Finland tomorrow at 1pm ET in Lake Placid. Here are the game lines for the game: https://twitter.com/HC_Men/status/364792063151202304/photo/1

Looking forward to see Gauthier with Mantha and Shinkaruk

1st line C, awww yeah. Glad to see Finner on there, too. We've got some decent prospects :D

Toninato survives the first round of cuts for USA.

Cuts? Do the Americans pick the team in the summer?

Think he'll do very well with a shooter like Mantha and a creative guy like Shinkaruk. Finn and Pulock also sound like a good pairing with Finn providing more of the defence.

Anyone think Rielly has a good chance to be captain of team Canada?
