Granlund is way stronger than PMB ever was.
Granlund reminds me a lot of a younger Saku Koivu, with maybe a lower ceiling. Although my memory of younger Saku is fuzzy.
I think much of his slow start is him trying to figure out a balance of going into the dirty areas and middle of the ice. He used to do it more, but then he started getting the concussions. This season, he seems to play more on the perimeter. But he's a smart, hard-working player, so I think he'll figure out the good mix.
He's slower than PMB. He might be a bit stronger, but he's below average in strength as an NHL'er. Parise, for instance, is much stronger, even though he is of similar size.
