Might not be the worst thing in the world for Heddy to be out for a few games. Puts the D and 1PP on Sergy's shoulders for a little bit. Maybe he'll embrace the responsibility and it will help him take the next step. Such a frustrating player to watch in so many ways because the talent is all there.

Vasy was meh.
I think he'd go 10 minutes between facing a shot and then it's a guy all alone with the puck on his doorstep or a breakaway. His turnover was terrible, but aside from that, I give him credit just for staying awake the entire game.

This team is really going to have to wake up. They don't have the depth and talent to sleepwalk through the regular season anymore. They are going to need to put in the work if they want to take another shot at it this year.

Way, way, way too many mental errors so far this year. Those have always been something that we struggled with from time to time, but we are seeing it in unprecedented levels so far. Nobody can make the simple play to get the puck out of the zone, structure is collapsing under pressure, too much finesse and cuteness all over the ice. We aren't going to be able to continue playing bad teams and these really, really bad habits are going to start costing us big time.

If a win can ever be embarrassing, this might be it. I've never seen two breakaways for the team down two men. The PP was absolutely atrocius.

Even at their peak the Lightning have been a team prone to mental errors and an playing an overly "cute" game at times. The difference between then and now is that Vasy was almost always there to bail them out so those errors weren't as noticeable. While he is still there to bail them out by making spectacular saves at key moments as he did tonight, his overall quality of play and ability to consistently make great saves look routine is not there. Just look at his numbers, including going back to last year. The only encouraging thing is that we are winning enough games despite his average play and you have to figure he will revert to form at some point, but the truth is, the longer it goes on, the more concerning it becomes.

Not sure the team is asleep, honestly Kuch is at 1.5 ppg Point and Stammer at a point per as well. Sergi and Heddy close to a ppg then Hagel, Killer, Paul are on a 50 point pace. The issue in scoring is the remainder of the team is just floundering and not much of a threat.
The failure of the PP is head scratching. That 5 on 3 was just brutal not only not scoring but giving up a shorty to Joseph none the less. The one common issue imo is passing it has all but killed Stammer and Kuch’s one timer on the PP and has bled over to 5x5 . Why are the passes just a little late?

The D is really on the struggle bus and more often than not hang Vasi out to dry or fry.

The Ottawa game was a win and we will take it but there are some big issues on the ice.

One of the more annoying things last night was how Nick Paul would always try to skate the puck out on the PK, only for it to be stolen and kept in. Bro, just clear it! That's by far one of the biggest problems with our PK in general. Always trying to make a play that's not there instead of just shooting it out.

honestly, to me it seemed as though ottawa just had a great game plan for facing us and played that to perfection. the bolts just didn't/couldn't adjust and kept going back to the center of the ice and getting picked off.

i thought defense played extremely well, and limited ottawa for the most part, it's just that when there was a lapse, it was a cherry opportunity for the sens (breakaways, turnovers right in front of vasy, vasy turning it over behind the net, etc.)

i don't think the lightning are playing particularly well as a cohesive unit, but last nights game wasn't necessarily an indication of any long term issues, besides maybe lack of motivation/urgency due to it being early in the regular season.

yes, this is my first "SWITCH WILL BE FLIPPED" post of the season.

He’s not the only one honestly trying to move the puck out of the zone that way. It may be the case that they have been asked to do that with the defense that has clearly been downgraded. It does seem that it is failing more often in near the blue line or just in the neutral zone. This catches the PKers in extended shifts. Whereas we are used to seeing them clear the puck and make changes . There have been so many instances in just these 10 games here the pk guys are gassed. And for the most part special teams has disrupted the flow of the 5x5 game far too often. It’s not like the reds are calling more penalties but there effect on the team as a whole as the power play struggles just kills any momentum they try to get. We fail on the PP and it takes 5 minutes to get the top two lines back rested and ready to go forcing the 3rd and 4th lines to fill time with little chances to score. This is hard to watch night in night out. The only real answer is to tweak the roster there has to be a high dollar forward moved in order to spread out some scoring threat. Yeah it will suck to move a 40 goal guy but if it brings back a couple 20 to 25 goal guys with that cap Coop has more tools to spread around. It’s not like those guys do not deserve the money they are paid it’s just a team can not fit all of them on a high octane roster without guys that are performing at higher levels than there cap , like Points rookie contract or before Kuch cashed in. This allowed Coop to roll 4 lines two years ago all that were a threat. That’s the difference in a cup competitive team and a bubble team like this team.
