Yeah, that was a good album..
Looking at your avatar, reminds me.. Rollins Band The End of Silence would be in my top 10, probably top 3..

I think Another Green World by Brian Eno would be another solid bet to make it on my end. I'm not much of a fan of Ambient music but I love how in-between this one feels between his ambient sensibilities and his previous art-rock music. Converges beautifully. Often makes me teary-eyed.

Honestly, in terms of overall quantity of top caliber output and contribution to music, I think I'm more impressed by what Brian Eno's done than just about anyone in rock. His art rock stuff alone would have already been enough for him to rub shoulders with greats like VU, The Beatles, Dylan, etc. (arguably surpass them) Then he basically goes on to essentially have a second career in a then non-existent but wildly influential genre that he pioneers that's equally impressive in quality, in addition to producing at least a half-dozen other masterpieces, and continuing to do notable stuff for another 10-20 years. And that's ignoring his Roxy Music period.

The "no compilations" angle makes this more challenging, as I lose several no-brainers from my list.

--The Beatles "Help!"
--The Beatles "Rubber Soul"
--Belle & Sebastian "Write About Love"
--R.E.M. "Fables of the Reconstruction"
--Duran Duran "Rio"
--Rush "Exit Stage Left"
--The Smiths "Strangeways, Here We Come"
--Cat Stevens "Teaser and the Firecat"
--The Royal Tenenbaums soundtrack
--If I'm going to be stuck on a deserted island indefinitely, then I need a Christmas album (either Ray Conniff Singers "We Wish You a Merry Christmas" or Jim Reeves or Richard Addinsell's "Scrooge Suite")

hmmm. on an island hey, hopefully its sunny and tropical. If it is cold, dark and miserable that may change what I would select.

Not much into the classics.......I like them but didn't grow up with them so I don't have any memories attached to them so most wouldn't do me any good on an island stranded alone.

I would probably pick albums that bring back fond memories and good times to uplift myself on the island.

Nas - Illmatic - Reminds me of how hearing this album for the first time drew me into hiphop/rap. Never had that same feeling again as there has never been a bar set so high in my books.

GNR - Appetite for Destruction - Reminds me of the good times I had with my brother growing up and a few girls I dated in my teens.

Sublime - Sublime - Reminds me of all my international friends I met at school I went to in the states for a year. a lot of drunken group sing-alongs to Santeria.

Smashing pumpkins - Siamese dream - First concert I went to with my first serious GF.

Silverchair - Frogstomp - Great times in middle school. a lot of road hockey played to this album.

Rancid - Out come the wolves - My first foray into the punk genre and only group I ended up enjoying ha.

Fugees - The Score - spent a lot of summers with friends listening to this album at the lake.

The Doors - The Doors - No rhyme or reason. I just enjoy Jim Morrison's vocals.

Metallica - Metallica (black album) - oddly enough reminds me of my Sony sportsman Walkman and biking like a madman around the campground ha. great youth memory.

AC/DC - Back in Black - Reminds me of the epic PeeWee years of hockey. blasting AC/DC before the game and warmups.

Just beat up on a coconut or something..

I should probably include a Rollins-era Black Flag album in my top 10 also. Maybe Slip it In.. but I think Greg Ginn was the primary creative force behind Flag, not Rollins (?)
I also liked the solo Rollins album, between Flag & Rollins Band- Hot Animal Machine.
peace.

Henry Rollins is an interesting person ,great interview.
His go to way of picking a fight when he was in to that sort of thing was to stand in a dive bar, arms crossed looking pissed.I guess it works like a charm.

Can't think of any. If a CD player can make it or a turntable, then surely a computer could make it or a piano or a viola. But since I don't listen to albums I can't think of any that I would have to live with.

It’s surprisingly hard to do. Some albums have a couple great songs, but aren’t good enough as a whole.

Guns N Roses - Appetite for Destruction
Metallica - Black Album
Rage Against The Machine - Rage Against The Machine
Eminem - Marshal Mathers LP 2
Dr Dre - 2001
Machine Gun Kelly - Lace Up
Black Keys - Brothers
Maroon 5 - Songs About Jane
HIM - Dark Light
CKY - Infiltrate.Destroy.Rebuild

It was hard to take out Illmatic, All Eyez On Me, and Back In Black, but I wanted to go more variety

This was fun to do, but really hard to get down to just 10.
These certainly aren't my favorite 10 albums of all-time, but I tried to get as much variety as possible.

Counting Crows - August & Everything After
Miles Davis - Kind of Blue
The National - Boxer
The Police - Regatta De Blanc
Radiohead - Kid A

    • (Does a live album count? If not, "Powerslave")
  4. Miles Davis - Bitches Brew"
  5. King Crimson - "Red"
