I'll do usual line-up updates once gameday decisions are made by both teams. Just went with the last lineup for the Kings and the current one listed for the Oilers on their site, with some additions from news posts on the board.

I know this will offend oiler fans, and I'm sorry to say this, but that lineup is pathetic. And I know this because I've been a Kings fan for over 24 years.

I think the latent talent in their lineup is scary. The problem is how it's translating on-ice and it's loaded with finesse and looks like zero grit.

And here it goes...jeeze Gabby

@Rich_Hammond: Gaborik isn’t skating for Kings this morning. Could be “maintenance†but he also had yesterday off. First line is 10-11-14

@Rich_Hammond: Gaborik is out, per Dean Lombardi. No timetable.

Gabby appears to be injured. MR moved up to LW on 1st line The guy has the worst luck with injuires. only 1 full season played since he broke in in 2000...

Oiler fan here, and yes, your way of putting it is more accurate than the "pathetic" comment. Just not the right mix, but the talent is undeniable. That said, it could slowly devolve to "pathetic" come puck drop if Nuge isn't good to go. It would leave us with:

Draisaitl - 18 yr old rookie with 2 NHL games

Arcobello - 26 yr old career AHLer with around 50 games experience. Also 5'9 170lbs

Gordon - solid defensive/face off specialist, the only veteran NHLer of the group. Poor guy will take every D zone draw I'm sure.

Yakimov - 20 yr old C making his NHL debut.

Up against the likes of Kopitar, Carter, Stoll and Richards. Wonder how that plays out.

I'm guessing 5-0 Kings. Maybe 5-1 if we get some PP's. Just hoping if we do pot one, it's either Perron or Yakupov, because I know how much Quick hates both of them. Either way, cheers. Should be an easy one for you guys.

Ahh crap. I thought he looked 'off' the other night. Rest that guy till he's healthy...wonder if it's the same issue that bothered him in the preseason.

But interesting moving up Mike Richards!

Do the Oilers not have an AHL affiliate? Why in the world do they continue to play 18 year old kids in the NHL? I'm willing to bet half those blue chip prospects never see their potential or it isn't realized on the Oilers. The one big thing they are missing with all these high draft picks is the fact that they need to be developed.

THe Barons (Oklahoma city) It's not the AHL team it's the GM who has no clue. Rushing young players rarely works and it's hurt this team. It's something that as a hockey fan for far too many years never understands. ESp in Philly where Clarke , Homer and Snider made a religion out of it.
You look at the talent the Oilers have drafted over the last 5 years or more and had they been groomed right, a whole different outcome most likely.

Yup. Which might mean whatever it was they felt he could 'play through it', hopefully that means he misses just a little time. Unless 'playing thru it' made it worse, thus the 'no timetable'
Two more games this week and then the Kings are off from Sunday to next Thursday. Maybe that is all he needs to get back.

Gaborik injury apparently isn’t new, but related to what kept him out in preseason.

Maybe there will be an update, this from the LA Kings Insider

Marian Gaborik did not participate in today’s morning skate due to an injury related to the muscle injury he suffered during training camp. More information will be provided by Darryl shortly after the team emerges from its video session.

So hopefully no other bodies fall:

-With the injuries to Gaborik, Trevor Lewis and Jake Muzzin, the Kings are down to 20 healthy bodies on the roster. Should the Kings suffer an additional casualty before a member of the three is able to return, they would be placed in a situation in which they would need to call a player up on an emergency basis. Because CapGeek lists the Kings’ cap space at $342,500, they don’t have the necessary space to call a player up on a non-emergency basis.

Edmonton has looked pretty good to start the year. They out played Calgary and hung int with a good Canuck team. they are very fast.
Puck possession will be key, so face offs are huge tonight.
My old man is a big Oilers fan and rubs it in my face whenever they beat the Kings. So go Kings.

Gaborik took a hit late in the game Sunday, didn't look so good skating off. Could be he aggravated something. I don't expect it to be something major, just something nagging. If it's something potentially extended, we'll probably see a callup in the next day or two, depending on Lewis' condition. If Andy is playing, that leaves us no forwards in reserve, unless I'm forgetting someone.

Or wait, is there cap space to do that?

On the bright side, gonna be interesting to see Andy Andreoff's debut and Richards playing on Kopi's wing again, if that is indeed what they decide to do.

Also, the Oilers will skate circles around the Kings if they take them as lightly as many on this board do :)
