BBA, you ignorant slut.
I’ve written several paragraphs explaining how I think he should be handled and given opportunities to advance. I specifically said he shouldn’t just be buried on the 4th line. I specifically said I’d rather have him at center than not. And you know damned well I’m not saying his literal statistics are what it’s about.
I disagree with your overall premise of having him on the 4th line though (and some of the reasons you used to form that opinion, but to avoid being "literal", I'll set those aside). Either he's ready for a top 9 role at training camp, or he's not. My view is if he's not, then send him to Charlotte (or less preferably the Czech league) to get ready. There he can get gobs of minutes in all situations vs. putting him as a 4th line winger with some other potential opportunities. Similarly to how you said Bean should go to the AHL until he's 21 so he can develop properly. That's the best option to me.
I don't think it will matter though. If I had to bet right now, I'd bet that Necas will not only make the team out of camp, but be in a top 9 role. Maybe or maybe not a center, but like Aho two seasons ago, I think he will be on the team and in a top 9 role, even if it's a bit of a sheltered one. For instance, something like:
Ferland-Aho-Teravainen = Top scoring line
McGinn-Staal-Williams = Goes against toughest matchups
????/Necas-Necas/????-Svechnikov =Sheltered line that goes against weaker matchups
Zykov-Martinook-Finnish guy we signed/PDG/Foegele.: Strong 4th line that can play in most situations.
???? will depend on what happens to Skinner/Faulk and who else is brought in.
