Zach is a UFA after this season. He looked really good until his leg injury and has been playing well in the A. Haven't seen him play anything significant with the big club since the injury. I would be inclined to think that he is worth signing, but for how much and will we be able to keep him seeing as we really haven't given him any reason to think he will crack the lineup soon? Seems they like Ellerby, Pardy, Clitsome more? What CAP amount can we expect to have to spend to keep him if we don't deal him at the deadline?

The Jets have 15 DMen on their depth-chart and I expect 1 or more to be moved soon. Remove Byfuglien from that list and it's 14, which is a still a lot. I foresee the following possible candidates for 2014 training camp

  • Top 3 Bogosian, Enstrom, and Trouba
  • Bottom 3 contenders Clitsome, Ellerby, Pardy, Postma, Redmond, Stuart

I'd love to see one or both of Clitsome and Ellerby take the mext step up and become a legitimate #4 Dman.

Based on what I have seen from that group it looks bleak in terms of a legit top 4. I really wonder about Clitty as his injury didn't seem to be from any particular incident. Maybe has was playing with a significant back issue, which may explain his poor play earlier this year. He just never seemed to regain his form of the previous year.

It will be interesting to see what happens to Redmond.

He has no trade value. But might get some interest in FA. I wouldn't mind re-signing him.

IMO we still need to pickup a 2nd pair LHD to truly be a strong team going forward. Morrissey may be that guy long term, but looking at next year.... Pardy Clitsome, Ellerby don't cut it.

I think it will take a a qne way contract in the 650 k range for 2 yrs to entice Redmond to re-up with the Jets..........if the Jets see him as a legit 6-7 d-man that they would not send down to the Rock (minors). I Like Redmonds upside and would like to see us resign him...........:handclap:

Redmond's a tweener, too good for the AHL but not quite good enough as a regular at the NHL level. Age isn't on his side and his window of opportunity in the NHL is closing. Can see him playing in Europe in a few years.

Redmond does have value. He's on a cheap two way, doesn't need waivers, and is a ufa this summer.

I think he still has NHL potential but the injury put him in a tough spot, contract-wise. I'd love to see him take a 1-year two-way deal with the promise of being given a shot at the start of the season to earn an NHL spot. I don't see the Jets being comfortable giving him a one-way longer-term deal right now.

True but you can probably add Morrissey for "bottom 3 contenders" going into next years camp. He may surprise us. I can see him get his 9-games and you never no what happens then. Kichton will also get a look in camp though I guess he'll get another year on the rock. Also, I doubt we re-sign Pardy.

I doubt Clitsome and Ellerby should be the players waiting for to make for legit 2nd line Dmens. I think you want to keep both on the 3rd pairing.

Redmond will have a legit shot to make the bottom pairing roster but he'll need to have a very good camp to outplay his opponents. The same can be said about Postma.

I'd really like to move Postma and I wouldn't understand if they didn't. We have no need at all for him as an offensive RHD with PP specialist upside, IMO. Morrissey, Toby, Bogosian and Trouba will be our PP Ds for years to come.

I'd like to sign a legit 2nd line LHD in the off season. Joni Pitkanen maybe?

I'm not sure how many of these guys will make it to FA. But there are a few interesting LHD set to become UFA's

- Nikita Nikitin
- Matt Niskanen
- Chris Butler
- Andrew MacDonald
- Joni Pitkanen
- Brooks Orpik
- Chris Phillips
- Henrik Tallinder

I agree. I have a good feeling about Redmond fitting in long term for some reason and it would be nice to be able to upgrade Stu via UFA or other means including trading him if opportunity arises.

Trading Buff for up front value has always been my preference.

We might miss Buffs PP presence but I don't think we'd be much worse off, if at all, with the above D pairing and with the 'value' we hopefully would get by trading him.

I'd call into question the notion that Redmond was doing "great" prior to his injury. I seem to recall he'd cooled off quite a bit and was about ready to be sent back down just before getting injured.
