If that was our tenth loss I might slightly be worried bout making the playoffs and loving this teams character. It was their 5th regulation and that effort at the end was life affirming.
Yup, team has also bounced back from heartbreakers this year. Positives to take away from the last 3 losses to build momentum though.

I got a pretty good idea for an IslanderDoggo post.

This site just doesn’t like my file of his avatar, nor on my phone or my desktop. I guess I’m confined to only DD mock posts.

I got a good one for him running to the Islanders board saying he’s also had enough of the Rangers after his 8 weeks of fandom and won’t be returning to the Devils, so it’s YES! YES! YES! Time.

@DerekDevils30 @Cheddabombs would either of you like to do the honors?

Sure ugly game, but they won me back at the end. Jack Hughes is something else.

I don't know if karma exists or if the players came out cocky, but the Devils fanbase kinda deserved this loss. Everyone was so certain they'd dominate the Isles pregame. Even Bill Spaulding (who has recently started to get on my nerves tbh) was laughing at the Islanders being velocity handicapped (or whatever the term he used).

Bad defence, bad goaltending, bad luck, bad bounces, and great playing by the islanders. The Devils woke up at the end, but it just was too late at that point. I appreciate the final effort though and hopefully this loss will motivate them against the Rangers next. A valuable learning experience, even if it may not seem so right now.
oh give me a break.

I'll say it once more for the BILLIONTH TIME :

Nothing we say or do here has any effect on what happens on the ice.

Not one damn thing.

just got home, really disappointing game but at least they made it exciting in the end. islanders fans were obnoxious and it kills watching them have something to celebrate when we played like crap against them for most of the game.

schmid was great, could have gotten really ugly if not for a number of huge saves he made on those power plays at the end of the second.

islanders got away with a lot of clutching and grabbing, weak reffing.

also noticed the refs get in the way of play way more than normal. maybe it’s just me but was this a rookie ref or something? didn’t seem to be able to get out of the way blocking clears and interfering with our players.

wood hit looked clean, not sure what he was thinking cutting through the middle like that. glad mcleod stood up for him but overall wish we didn’t get pushed around by those dirtbags

Isles fan here. This devils team is an absolute juggernaut. You guys are the team to beat. Ive never seen a 6 on 5 for that long in my entire life of watching hockey. That was pure entertainment. Best of luck the rest of the way.
Juggernaut?

Sure didn't feel like it from our end tonight.

Felt more like how it was last season.

also holtz is not nhl ready. he has a shot and instincts but basically any time he has to think the game he coughs up the puck, or holds onto it too long and loses the board battle. the two penalties were just a cherry on top.

i want to like him so badly but honestly not seeing it with him - he’s not getting into scoring position which should be his bread and butter

Avs lost bad games last year, didn’t mean they weren’t a juggernaut! ;)

Games like these will happen. They aren’t a habit anymore though and if they team plays like they’ve played for 90% of the season, they’ll win a lot of hockey games.

They’ve been playing mediocre to bad hockey for a while now, even in their wins. Washington, the Rangers at MSG, Nashville, at Philly and tonight were all lukewarm performances. The only truly dominant game was against AHL Chicago.

I disagree. They’re just not winning as dominantly every game, which is to be expected. They played good against the Rangers and Nashville. Washington was fine and we finally got a goaltending win in that one. Philly was rough, I’ll give you that one.

I agree with you, but I also think we were playing way over our heads for a while there.

And I don’t mean way over our talent level, but way over what an NHL team can sustain for a full season.

We were like a 60% team at 5 on 5 before that stretch and were on pace for something like a +800 (or something like that) shot differential on the season. The Stanley Cup winner doesn’t even finish the regular season with those numbers.

I mean, we’re still on pace for 66 wins and 131 points this year, which we definitely won’t get that many wins/points. I’m pretty sure that would be a league high in wins all time.

So we were due to not outplay the shit out of everybody and even a game like this.

Good summary of the game tonight
I thought of putting up a tweet of an islander fan (that was re-tweeted by Bratt Pack) who came with a shirt stating "Let's Invade The Rock" but then thought better of it.

Although the comment a FLYERS FAN said toward him was pretty funny and this was my response :

I mean seriously....a Flyers fan preaching to a Devils fan about the fanbase being dangerous? REALLY?
