I don't think he's untouchable, but it would take a potential #1C - not necessarily proven, but a good enough prospect or high enough pick that it could become a true #1C. That price is likely too high for anyone to pay, so odds are we keep him.

Shouldn't you guys focus on tanking? Why trade for a good goalie rn. Embrace the tank for a couple of years. Askarov would be better for a contender or soon to be contender who needs a high upside goalie.

Trotz was ready to do it for the Smith pick in the summer. But I doubt he's as ready now... Askarov has taken a very nice step in his development this season, and at the same time as Saros has faltered. They'll still sign Saros. But not to as generous a deal as was previously perhaps on the table. And with Askarov breathing down his neck a little more aggressively. A trade won't happen.

San Jose has no future at goalie, can’t seem to draft one at all.
With Saros at Nashville do they plan on signing him long term ?
Could Askarov be available if so what would be the price ?
Nashville isn’t moving him unless (1) they keep Saros, and (2) thry get very good return like say a top 10 pick.

Wasn't it Askarov and a 1st round pick ?
Which nobody took the Preds up on

The rumor was Askarov and #15... available for any pick that would have landed one of the Big Four centers in the draft (which ended up being the top 4 picks only). Not surprising nobody took the Preds up on it. And nobody would in the coming draft either, even though there aren't 4 centers at the top this time. It's just not gonna happen. Even with Askarov being a lot better than he was last year with some risk thereby retired.

Yes, but Askarov's value has definitely gone up since then.
i don"t know if askarov's value (relative to smith) has risen as much. but at last year's draft trotz was shopping for a top4 pick. this time around a sj fan is shopping for askarov.

Teams don’t usually trade elite prospects they’ve been developing unless they are getting something pretty special back. Nashville would probably ask for Celebrini 😂

You think the Preds will pull the 4th overall pick +for him?
I can't see that
Preds have no reason to move this player today so they’d set their price high and see of someone got there. In this case, it’s San Jose calling them. So set your ask and be patient.

No reason to do San Jose a favor and make a deal that works well for San Jose at Nashvilles expense.

The only way i see him getting moved is if they sign Saros to an extension. Then a trade of him woukd likely involve a younger goalie prospect not yet starting their ELC+ a top prospect ( maybe not a top 10 pick).

You’re joking, right? Like, there is less than zero chance that the Preds pull Will Smith for Askarov. And the Sharks absolutely would not be calling to offer him.

Askarov is Nashville's top prospect, we wouldn't be moving him for lesser prospects/players. A San Jose fan is asking for his price, Nashville isn't looking to trade him.

So the Sharks strategy is to emulate the 2013-2019 Devils and have a good goalie (Schneider) put you in no mans land in the standings.

So basically if Nashville asked the price of Smith we could say Josi, Forsberg, and Askarov? Cause that’s your logic in this post. Nashville asked we can say whatever we want!

Assuming Askarov is good enough to be targeted, then I don't recommend tanking with a good goalie.
Trust someone from Montreal on this topic.
