We'll see. He had a great start to his rookie year and played well in a few playoff games last season but the year between that was something to forget. Missed bubble hockey because of an ATV accident, landed twice on the Covid last year, pretty pedestrian numbers when he did play... he had pretty much an entire calendar year of stunted development and it showed on the ice....Caps made a Boo Boo here, imo...lack of Cap room is biting them in the arse, as unless Samsonov completely shytes the bed, he's getting a huge raise sooner than later...
Huh? "Black Ace" for the playoffs typically means a minor league player that is called up as an emergency reserve. Samsonov will not be a minor leaguer this year, he will be the 1A in the Capitals goalie tandem. Did you mean "wildcard" or "dark horse" or something like that?Could be the black ace for a cup run
For a starting goalie? YesPeople think this is cheap?

For a starting goalie? Yes
That's the thing - I don't think he's good enough to be a starting goalie, and I'm not sure the Capitals think so either.

Unless he plays better and more consistent next season anything more with any term attached would have been a big gamble....Caps made a Boo Boo here, imo...lack of Cap room is biting them in the arse, as unless Samsonov completely shytes the bed, he's getting a huge raise sooner than later...
Here’s the simple fact. If he plays like he played for decent stints in the few PO games last year the Caps window is still open. If he regresses significantly, ......well there’s still one thing on the team (player) to cheer for. We'll see. He has every tool you could want for him to be a very strong #1 but we'll see if he can put it all together on a consistent basis.
VV is a good soldier and deserves better then how some of the team and organization has done him. By way of lack of support and all-around GAF on the ice and bench. That's nearly 3x the Cap hit of Vanecek. It's not bad, just proves what a steal VV is.
