Would the Leafs consider trading Matthews if they got a haul for him?

No Movement Clause means he has to waive/agree to be traded to whichever team is supposedly offering up the great package. It really limits a player's trade value.

His brand and marketing alone is worth more to the Organization than any hockey "haul" they may receive. He will not not be moved unless he specifically asks to be moved, or he's in the final year and doesn't want to resign. There are other players they can and will move. Matthews isn't going anywhere unless he wants out.

He also loves playing in Toronto and definitely values the fact that he'll end up the all time points leader, possibly GLOAT.

The players took little to no responsibility for the loss and accused the media and fans of creating a “scapegoat” . When compared to other leaders in the sport, he’s a disappointment both on and off the ice.

Perfect then no team will want him, guess the leafs will keep the bum goal scoring 2 way center

I think MLSE will do whatever it can to move Marner, but that will be the extent of the big moves. Then bolster the D somewhat. Matthews ain't going anywhere.

What if the Leafs got offered a #1C, a #1D and a #1 goalie for Matthews? Even if the Leafs have to add picks to balance the trade. Would and should the Leafs do it despite just signing Matthews to a new contract that starts next season? Or is Matthews untouchable?
Anyone that has a #1C/D/G isn't going to trade them all for another 1C.

He’s been a terrific regular season player, but Pelley said today they’re no longer in the shirt selling business. We’ll see if they can find some guys to drag him through a couple of rounds.

Matthews scored the most goals in 30 years while leading the league in blocked shots and being a Selke finalist. Anyone suggesting Matthews should be traded to me invalids their opinion on the sport

The Leafs shouldn't wait for someone to make an offer for Matthews... they should be instigating a trade.

Time for a total rebuild and the core 4 should be gone. Stock up on draft picks and young prospects.

A generational goal scoring, selke level, MVP caliber center in his prime? No realistic trade where it makes them better. Keep the stud

Isn’t that a NTC? Isn’t a NMC about assignment to the minors?
A no-movement clause means a player cannot be traded, placed on waivers or assigned to the minors without his consent. A no-trade clause means a player cannot be traded without his consent.

NTC is a lesser included of a NMC.

No, unless he asks to leave.

I get the goal for most fans is to win the cup, but Matthews is one a great player and two, such a massive marketing piece. He has a chance to go down as the best Leaf since Keon if not further back than that. While the current playoff performance of our team has been insanely disappointing, Matthews fills seats (granted anyone can do that in Leaf land, we've seen a team with JVR as the best player sell out pretty much everygame while tanking) and draws viewers.
Bruh you wouldn't trade a #1C for another #1C + #1D + 1G??

That's wild

There’s about as much chance of the Leafs dealing Matthews as there is of the Oilers dealing McDavid.

Just out of curiosity, what teams out there could even offer the 1C+1D+1G for Matthews? How many teams even have all that and would be in a position to make a trade like that? I can’t think of anyone. Playoff teams wouldn’t gut their core just for AM and what rebuilding/bubble team has all 3 of those to offer?

Can we keep our superstar players north of the border? Matthews and MvDavid and Hughes need to stay on their current Canadian clubs. And the other Canadian clubs need to get superstars and keep them too.

A player of Matthews caliber you keep and get pieces to build around him to succeed he's a prime #1 top 5 player in the world. Get rid of other assets and build around him. Not get rid of.

He'd also be the GHOAT should he be moved to Carolina for Aho, Slavin and Kochetkhov.
