Is the current should patch W eagle logo good enough to be the Main logo?

The nhl, for a league whose uniforms display the team logo, there’s a lot of meh logos out there.

I’d probably say Red Wings logo is the best in the league. Has the wing plus the tire to represent the city.

I think NHL arguably has the best logos in the NA major leagues - NBA's are mostly stylised basketballs, NFL's are decent but pretty cartoonish, and MLB's are almost all just boring letters

Wordmarks suck, in general. Maybe you could argue that this particular one is better than most for Washington. But it's still not "good" at all.

The Shark is a bit cartooney, sure. But it's unique and aggressive, with a great colour scheme. I'd say top half of the league, if it were up to me.

Washington is worse here, by a landslide.

Just realized that a Ducks/Caps final is impossible in this bracket, which is a shame.
No it's not.

Anyway, Washington Capitals don't even have a real logo. Just how lame is that? Especially when they have a cool eagle they could be using instead.

The longer you look at that logo the worse it gets.

I guess their W eagle is kind of, sort of clever, but would need to see a better implementation.

Of the three, the chicken leg eagle looks the most coherent and solid. But as you say, the execution just isn't quite right. It has that weird quality of a hand-drawn 1960s logo, like the Penguin or Johnny Canuck. The stars in the wings feel unnecessary (though I'm sure the 5 stars are said to have great symbolism locally) and the leg just is what it is.

The newer Weagle is definitely clever, but clever logos always feel kind of strained to me. "Look for the hidden picture" is a whole genre of logos now, but the only one that has ever felt effortless what Hartford (and even then, nostalgia plays a pretty heavy role there).

When on the playing surface really only the nfl and nhl have their logos on the uniforms/helmets. Nfl due to the size of just being on the helmet is going to be more simple due to the smaller size so don’t want something too complicated. Nhl, it’s on the front on the jersey so a little more detail can be had.

Think of all the imagery you can get from a team called "Washington Capitals". Then see this mid-00s wordmark nonsense and the ugly piping on the jerseys. It's so easy to be so much better.

Haha don't care and didn't vote. Fun convo though.

Is this one regarded as awful? I thought it was pretty good but admittedly I spend very little time on logos or jerseys or anything like that.
