Weird things going on there.

Canada is 0-3, while Germany is 3-0. Finland lost to Latvia, but beat the US.

The Swiss are 2-0, while Sweden is 0-2.

Real test today for Team USA vs Kazakhstan. Interesting that some seasons the league does not participate in the WCs. Covid must be the real reason although I would have expected there are a lot of guys out there trying to make a name for themselves given the limited ice time. Latvia is not necessarily a great destination either. Read somewhere Cappy was chosen as the coach as he is known for pulling teams together with short notice. Not sure why this came together so late.

Also of interest is the Drury angle.

"We don't have enough practice time for an Xs and Os coach."

"Well, then how about a guy who doesn't even know what Xs and Os are?"

Germany
It's been a good tournament thus far. Fairly few NHLers and it's noticeable, because everybody seems a lot more competitive.

Heck, even Italy (crushed by Covid) and England (home league was only 12 games long this season) have spent long stretches neck and neck with the opponents.

The US has looked very good. The players there are really working well together. There actually seems to be a simple, but highly effective system in place and the boys are moving very well. Lots of puck possession.

I know I wasn't in favor of him at the trade deadline, but this guy Connor Garland really has some hands. The opponents are going crazy with him. And he works hard in both directions. He's looked fantastic on the power play too. Very clever and creative.

He knows how to make use of time and space.

The US actually has the easiest path to a playoff spot to go.

Not only are they in second place at the moment, but their last two games are against Germany and the Covid-stricken Italians. Granted, the team really had a hard time defeating

For Germany, they are hitting "must win" territory. They started things off with the expected wins over Italy and Norway, then had a valiant victory over Canada, but they've lost to Kazakhstan (unexpected) and Finland by tight 3-2 and 2-1 scores, losing each in the last ten minutes of the game with an unforced error.

If the US wins today, they'll move into first place with just the game against Italy to go.

If Germany loses, they'll then face Latvia in a game that'll decide who finishes fourth in the division.

Canada is BTW still in the running and tied with Germany for 4th, albeit with one less game in hand.
