This post relating to women's hockey is a stub. You can help Wikipedia the History of Hockey forum by expanding it.

The previous season decisively ended the rivalry between the Ottawa Alerts and the Montreal Westerns. The Alerts, after four seasons, were undefeated against the Westerns, with the Westerns managing only one draw in 1915-16. The teams would not play each other again.

Of course, Montreal was not the only major city that could field a competitive team.

The last time the Ottawa Alerts faced a club from Toronto was on March 1, 1917. After sweeping a three-game exhibition series against Pittsburgh, the Alerts played the "Toronto Ladies" to a scoreless draw.

The Toronto team that would face the Alerts represented the Blythwood Athletic Club, which was not the same as the "Toronto Ladies" from 1917. At least one player from that club would be returning to face the Alerts: defender Edith McParland. (It is also possible that rover "Miss Simpson" from 1917 is the same as forward "Rita Simpson" in 1920, but "Simpson" is a fairly common surname, so one cannot safely make that assumption.)

One interesting observation from the above article is that Edith Anderson was considered the "most brilliant" women's hockey player at the time. It is curious how she is mostly forgotten today.

Also, some rookie named "Miss Moulds" was "showing great promise" and would make her debut against Toronto.

And also, the Ottawa Alerts would also end up playing against another Ottawa-based club to which "Miss Moulds" would later defect.

I'm sure none of the above are foreshadowing events of future seasons.

Notes:

The game between the Alerts and Toronto was very much going the same way as the game in 1917. It was scoreless going into the third period until Shirley Moulds, who had been given limited ice time due to her youth, drove to the net and opened scoring. She would score again a few minutes later.

After playing the opening game for the Alerts, Shirley Moulds and Tena Turner would go on to play two games for the Ottawa Crescents against the Alerts.

Edith Anderson missed the final game for the Alerts against the Crescents.

The Alerts would remain undefeated this season. Their last loss was on March 26, 1917 (a 6-1 loss to the Cornwall Victorias, with Albertine Lapensee scoring all 6 goals for the Victorias).

On January 1, 1920, two ladies' hockey teams were founded in Antigonish: the Fleetfoot and the Ice Sickles. Unfortunately, it proved difficult to find opponents. Eventually, the Ice Sickles would arrange a game against the ladies' hockey club from New Glasgow.

Notes:

This one game between New Glasgow and Antigonish is a reminder about being mindful of preservation bias and the difficulty of doing research when not all sources of information are easily accessible. It is, in fact, highly probable that the record for this game is easily accessible online because Zina Cameron collected material relating to her family and donated it to the Antigonish Heritage Museum. In the same way that Edith Anderson is curiously forgotten today, it is difficult to know how much of women's hockey history has been lost to time due to location, lack of reporting, etc..

As for Zina Cameron herself, she studied watchmaking and started working at Monahan Jewellery in 1926, eventually bought the business and renamed it Cameron's Jewellery, which still exists today. (A puff piece can be found here, and another paid piece can be found here.)
