Well Abols as a head coach definitely deserves recognition. Latvia always had this "whoever coaches some other junior Latvian team" mentality when appointing head coaches. Tambijevs is probably the only one of the past coaches who could hold a candle to Abols, and even he was nobody when he coached the U-20. Finaly we have a coach with actual big league and international experience. And even if it just coinsided with a deep team once in a while, he still should be acknowledged.
We're usually well-coached.
And Abols is a top notch coach, absolutely.
Still, the extreme forward depth we have this year coupled with several big, puck-moving defencemen and competent goalies is extremely rare for a Latvian side at the junior level.
The bottom line is that this Latvian team is actually pretty good.
