I get the impulse. Mantha and AA are not renowned for their defensive acumen and they're both fresh fresh rookies. In a one goal game in the third with a tight playoff race, you try to lock it down.

But Richards? Come on....

Blashill logic: AA isn't very good defensively yet, so we shouldn't use him in defensive situations.

But defense is important in all situations!

Therefore, never play AA.
