Nothing I've seen from this period makes me think they have a shot at winning this game. For all the talk about how "they have to win these games" and "the time is now", their play shows none of that urgency. It's all talk, no action. It's pathetic.

Gardiner was a huge mistake. Our scouting department missed that one.

Our goalies aren’t good enough. League average doesn’t cut it in the Metro.

Defensively responsible forwards who can’t score are liabilities.

It all started with Francis finding a way to not get a decent goalie during the goalie purge that was the expansion draft.

Yeah, Tripp just goes on and on how good he is. I have been questioning my hockey sense because I am seeing something completely different. It is painful sometimes. Especially games in person where I just watch him the whole time. But honestly, lately our whole defense has looked rough at times. Slavvin had a tough game last night. Definitely turned it around quickly tonight, thank goodness.

The thing with Gardiner is that his mobility is just so bad. Once he gets up to top speed he's about average but his acceleration and foot speed is ECHL level. Combine that with his questionable hockey sense and you have the 2019-2020 Jake Gardiner.

This one especially. There are too many good complete players and deep teams in the league to have a roster full of one dimensional specialists. There was an era when a Jordan Staal would be coveted as a rock on the third line, just as there was an era when every team could ice an enforcer every night. But no more.
