Will the NHL ever have a crazy offseason like in MLB?

The fact that most players with significant value are locked up for 7+ years with NTC/NMC really hurts the offseason.

I know it's unlikely to happen due to NHLPA but I'd like to see a max contract length of something around 5 years. To sell this to NHLPA the NHL could shorten the ELC/RFA duration. These changes would do wonders for both the UFA and the trade market. This would also make it harder to become a competitor by building your core with just lottery picks.

The moves that the Padres GM is making don't make much sense. I could go into this but this isn't the baseball section. To put it simply, I feel he's making deal simply for the sake of making deals which almost always ends in disaster.

Sure but it's entertaining as hell
