People talk like Messier is a billionaire. How much did he earn in his career? Is that known?

Not sure of his total career earnings, but since retiring he's done:
position as special assistant to GM and owner
worked as an analyst
First Shift (helps kids get equipment)
ColdFX (a cold remedy)
his family owns hotel in the Bahamas (don't know how much he plays a part)
endorsements
the previously mentioned Kingsbridge Rink

He also probably never had to buy dinner or drinks in NY after '94, that being said, he has also done some nice work with the NY Police & Fire Widows and Children's Fund, serving on the Board.

His Lays chips ads seem like the most well-known ones, at least on the west coast of Canada.

Anyways, to answer OP's question: I've heard he tried some coaching at the Peewee level in the Edmonton area and found that he just wasn't tall enough to elbow the opposing players in the nose from behind the bench. Plus the kids are wearing cages at that point. Wasn't as fun for him, he gave it up. Never know til you try though.
