Because this was originally the Olympic Break in the schedule, and the games that are filling this time are ones that were re-scheduled after COVID cancellations or travel complications from earlier this season.
Because they originally had over 2 weeks off for the Olympics and then the NHL and players union withdrew from the Olympics. The Caps played some rescheduled games due to covid which left 1 week off.
The schedules are weird this year because of Covid and the Olympics. I believe the Caps have played four games since the All-Star Break but last night was the Rangers’ first game since the break.
The Caps have played 52 games which is the most in the NHL while other teams in the division have played 47 or 48 games. It’ll balance out eventually.
