The Conn Smythe Troph as you know was started in 1965, Beliveau was the much deserving recipient of it. But before '65 there was no award and I thought it might be interesting if I made a list of my picks starting in '40. Disagree if you want.
Phil Watson - Led playoffs with 9 points
Milt Schmidt - Led playoffs with 11 points
Syl Apps - led all Leafs in scoring
Johnny Mowers - had two shutouts in pivitol final two games
Maurice Richard: Although Blake outpointed him (18-17) it was Richard who had 12 goals including the big 5 goal game vs. the Leafs
Frank McCool - 4 shutouts and helped shut down the powerful Habs
Elmer Lach - led playoffs with 17 points
Ted Kennedy - led Leafs in playoff scoring
Ted Kennedy - 14 points in playoffs, led playoffs
Turk Broda - GAA of 1.57, 1 shutout
Harry Lumley - had a 1.85 GAA. Was in net for both game 7 OT winners
Turk Broda - If Montreal wins then its Richard, but a 1.10 GAA for Broda
Terry Sawchuk - 4 shutouts in 8 games! He didnt allow a goal on home ice
Bernie Geoffrion - Led Habs in points
Terry Sawchuk - No Wing scored a lot, Sawchuk had a sparkling 1,60 GAA and two shutouts
Gordie Howe - Howe led the playoffs with 20 points. Lindsay was right there and Delvecchio wasnt far behind. Sawchuk was shakier vs. the Habs
Jean Beliveau - had 12 goals and 19 points. 7 goals in Cup finals.
Bernie Geoffrion - Wrecked havoc with 18 points, no one even close
Maurice Richard - 11 goals in 10 games.
Doug Harvey - 12 points in 11 games.
Jacques Plante - No Hab player stood out. It was Plante though that had a 1.35 GAA with 3 shutouts, including the Cup winner
Pierre Pilote - Tied for playoff points with 15. You can bet Pilote took care of his defensive responsibilites too
Tim Horton - had 16 playoff points. Tim wouldnt have left his end of the rink unwatched either
Johnny Bower - Bower twice shutout the Habs and then in the finals allowed 10 goals in 5 games to the Howe-led Wings
George Armstrong - A lot of Leafs played great this year. Mahovolich may not have been a bad pick either or Keon or Kelly. Armstrong had 13 points
