On the other hand, his position on our roster (or the Checkers') will not be decided here by beating up ECHL level talent. It will be decided in training camp and the beginning of the season. If he displays those tendencies at that time, then I will start to worry.

Yes, I'm not hitting the panic button or anything. If he comes out swinging in camp, that's great and we move right on.

I'm hopeful that Murphy won't go down the McBain path. First, I read the other day that he had put on 20 pounds over the last few years. And as long as that wasn't McBain style, I think that points to the fact that he isn't lazy. I also think he probably does tend to look a little lazy when forced to play at a level he's outgrown, or maybe even in a practice with some low level prospects. And some gifted players and smooth skaters can look lazy sometimes just because they think they can use their natural gifts to make up for it. As mentioned though, when at the NHL level where one can't rely on just those physical gifts, he seemed to show no signs of laziness. Overall, he is just way more skilled and I think has more work ethic than McBain.

McBain had no trouble at all putting on weight. A beer here, a donut there and he easily had 20 lbs of belly fat every season. :sarcasm:
