Lou Lamoriello

Hawks fan here -- I've been somewhat fascinated by Lou's management of Devils and his rules, style, efficiency. Is there a book or recommended articles (or thread on HF) that provides details on how he runs the Devils? Thanks in advance.

Nope, I dont think there is anything on him

Most stuff you hear about him would be stories. I do think Marty's book had some stuff on how he operated with Lou though

This is all I could find

To this day, if you call the New Jersey Devils, you’ll find that it won’t ring more than twice if you call. That’s the rule.’’

No nonsense, very little sensationalism, modest, workmanlike.

Think the Yankees under George Steinbrenner, but not as extreme.

As for sources on this, I think the people above handled that.

There really needs to be a book on Lou once he calls it quits. Sure there are plenty of fascinating tales to be told if he is more talkative in retirement.

I would suggest going to find any press conference with Lou because the accent adds such another layer. Extra points to when he talks about Marty...or MAHtey

News on Lou? Maybe yes maybe no everything is status quo

Man I miss Jaques. I feel if they kept him all those years we probably would have had another cup in us or two in addition to the 3 we have.

Cory Pronman did this where he imagined a 31st NHL team that drafted 16th overall (middle of each round) and given who had already been drafted picked who he liked as if he were a GM. He did this for the past 3 or so drafts and created his own prospect pool for his team. He used his own draft boards so this is a bit different but the same kind of idea.

Example: This past draft Max Domi went 12th overall so he is off limits because you are drafting at #16, but Hunter Shinkaruk went 24th overall so he would be available to draft.

My take in 2013 with the idea that I'm in NJ's position where obviously there is a lean towards forwards. All drafts earlier BPA. Also I'm only going to the 3rd round because after any farther and its just picking a prospect whose numbers look good, has size, etc. (basically a waste of time). There are some flaws with this when drafting further back with their stock being higher/lower with better/worse seasons (ex: Severson). Remember this isn't perfect.

2013 Draft
#16 Hunter Shinkaruk LW/RW
#47 William Carrier LW
#78 Anthony Duclair LW

2012 Draft
#16 Tuevo Teravainen RW
#47 Damon Severson D
#78 Brendan Leipsic LW

2011 Draft
#16 Zach Phillips C
#47 Scott Harrington D
#78 Anthony Camara LW

2010 Draft
#16 Jarred Tinordi D
#47 Jason Zucker C
#78 Scott Wedgewood G

So after 4 drafts this fantasy prospect pool would look like:
LW: Camara, Duclair, Carrier, Leipsic
C: Zucker, Phillips
RW: Shinkaruk, Teravainen
D: Tinordi, Severson, Harringston
G: Wedgewood

At least this is a good game to pass the days of the offseason.

Sounds like some fun. Plus I think it's interesting to go back and see how many talented players are actually available in lower draft spots. This one's gonna be pretty cheaty though, since I have no trouble going by hindsight during things like this. :naughty:

2013 Draft:
Burakowsky (LW)
Lekhonen (LW)
Duclair (LW)
J. Subban (D)
Bartosak (G)

2012 Draft:
Teravainen (C/RW)
Frk (RW)
D. Zharkov (LW)
Trevor Carrick (D)
Mike McKee (D)

2011 Draft
Klefbom (D)
Scott Harrington (D)
Reid Boucher (totally cheating pick - W)
Zach Yuen (D)
Andrew Shaw (C)

2010 Draft
Tarasenko (C)
Toffoli (RW)
Galiev (RW)
Phillip Grubauer (G)
Peter Mrazek (G)

I didn't mean to go so forward heavy so early, and I swear 2011 wasn't just because I realized how few D I had drafted. Light on D but I'd be ok with that for Tarasenko and Teravainen in the same prospect pool. I'd trade this for the Devils' pool in a heartbeat, but again that doesn't mean much with hindsight on my side.

Left Wing | Center | Right Wing
Burakowsky|Tarasenko|Frk
Lekhonen|Teravainen|Toffoli
Duclair|Shaw|Boucher
Zharkov|Galiev
Defense|
Klefbom|Harrington
Subban|Carrick
Yuen|Mckee
Goaltender
Mrazek
Grubauder
Bartosak
