they still threw a bad contract at him, and it wasnt his MS that made the deal bad. Was poor judgment.

Did the same with Bolland, Hossa, Keith, and Seabrook.... Keith's cap hit isnt SO bad, but theyre still stuck with him untill 22-23 unless they plan to "cheat" a la LTIR.

They won their Cups, but now are facing the consequences. Who knows when theyll be contenders again.

Those two contracts were two of the best in the NHL for a long time. They literally had a Conn Symthe Winning, 2x Norris Winner at D in his prime and a 500 goal scoring, possession monster at RW who was the best defensive winger in hockey for under 11 million combined. The Hawks sign both those contracts again in a heartbeat.

Thought Mikael Backlund had a pretty underrated season for the Flames. He receives almost zero notoriety for what he does. But for a 2nd line center who plays almost exclusively as a shut down specialist, he had an incredible season at even strength. Put up 0.56 even strength points ppg which is right up there with guys like Kessel, Johansen, Teravainen, Skinner and etc. Also ended up with as a +34 which is tops among forwards in the entire NHL.
Absolutely hate Calgary but love Backlund. Underrated around the league for sure
