This sounds like fun - but I think the biggest issue is that sprinters thrive in heat. And obviously, McDavid needs ice, which means cold weather. Those 2 things don't exactly mesh.

Competitive track and field does better in heat is all. It's a bit slower in colder weather

Just like - if you had McDavid skate at full speed is super hot weather, where the ice is slushy or in bad condition, it also doesn't work as well

The 100m start arguably has too much influence on the 100m race whereas a longer distance identifies who can "run" the fastest.
