I read X-Sharkie's mock draft... always good, detailed info... now, for entertainment's sake, WHAT TYPE OF PLAYER DO ALL OF YOUR RESPECTIVE TEAMS NEED IN THE SYSTEM??? I wanna begin formulating ideas about the possible/probable 05 draft. Feel free to cover other teams also...

For example:

NYR - could really use a franchise forward, less of a project than Jessiman... defense is not a priority, and goaltending is basically out of the question. So if not Crosby :), then maybe Latendresse, Ryan or Zagrapan.

What does YOUR team need?

The Leafs need to draft a Top Line talent RW or C.

I know many will argue we need much more, but to be fair we've got at least one decent prospect at nearly every position, I'd just like to see RW/C get some more sniper-esque depth.

Needs a QB specialist and a sniper. Someone who can score 35+ goals a season.
I understand they have a young bergeron, but he is not reliable enough to be the go to guy. Sniper, thats easy...they simply don`t have anyone who can score on a consistant basis. Like Guerin for example.

Yeah we need a shooter we have some young play makers in Stajan, Steen, Wellwood, and even Antropov. And our defense is Decent with Cola, White, Bell, Harrison, Vorobiev to go with a relatively young group in Toronto. These arn't top class prospects but there is some depth but there are no snipers in the system outside Williams who isn't a top line guy at least at this point.

A bonafide top line star. preferably a center, since Modano isnt getting any younger.

Ditto Devils. Need Defensemen. With the graduation class of Hale and Martin, need to restock.

Detroit needs a big gritty winger who can play on the top two lines. Must not have a great scoring touch (let's be realistic here, power forwards are not a dime a dozen), but is not afraid to get his nose dirty in the corners.

Penguins need guys who can score or a top class playmaker.

Malkin? :dunno:

i mean it's not like these guys are sure bets to be what you say your team needs but they're both prospects who's upsides fit exactly what you say the team needs. Malkin is a very smooth scorer and playmaker...Schremp is basically a prototypical PP specialist and sniper.

I guess you could say you need MORE of those guys, but then again so does every team.

dunno about the pens but I kinda feel that the oilers could use a real stud D

Habs need Defensemen. Top 4 potential are extremely scarce. There's Komi and Hainsey, but after that most of them are long shots. That's by far the top need.

Could also use a top 6 forward with some size. Chipchura's got size, but he's not really a lock for top 6. I'd be pretty happy if they could get their hands on a guy like O'Marra somehow.

Franchise players are also lacking, and are always welcome. Kinda hard to come buy those without finishing in the bottom 5 or so in the standings though.

The Bruins would likely be in the market for a top-notch scoring forward. Boyes and Hilbert are the only two that they really have in the pipeline at the moment and neither one of them really have star potential. They have enough grinders in Samuelsson, Karsums, Marjamaki, etc so I could see them taking a chance on a boom or bust type offensive player.

With that said, the Bruins generally go for whoever they feel is the best player available at the moment and not necessarily what they need. For example, they drafted Toivonen with Raycroft already developing well at the time and passed up Parise when he fit a position they needed help in. Not to mention they tend to go a bit off the board with their picks (Morrisonn, Toivonen) so it's anyone's guess as to who'll they'll actually pick.

Just to add, they need size period. All the good prospects are small. From the blue line to the front line.

The Flames need a high end forward prospect and then depth at defence and goaltender. They've got good depth at forward but no real standouts while they have good top end D and G (Phaneuf, Krahn, Ramholt) but very little depth at those positions.

I disagree with you on goaltending. The Flames now have good depth at the G position.

Krahn - really imporved this season, his knees finally seem fine.
Curtis McElhinney - solid goalie in college.
Sebastien Centomo
Davis Parley
Jimmy Spratt
Andrei Medvedev

There are about 3-4 guys who could one day be backups, etc. I don't see a problem with our goalie depth. The Flames do lack a top end (finesse) forward.

Ducks need:

1) 1st pairing d-man (Marc Staal would be nice at 9th overall...or trade up for Johnson)
2) 1st line center (Getzlaf being a great 2nd line center...Brule would be nice if they can trade up)
3) Goalie of the future (Bryzgalov is already 25)

What Ducks don't need:
Wingers and 2nd and 3rd pairing D-men. Got plenty of those.

As usual you hit it in the head BUT I have a big question: is Marc Staal a top pairing d-man?
I'm not sure of that.

Getzlaf could be our 1st line center or a GREAT 2nd line center but so is Brule (with less size) anyway I would love to see the Ducks picking him.
