Take it a step further. 1 division leader is gone. A second is about to be gone and the other two are in a 2-2 dog fight. It's a reasonable possibility that round 2 starts with none of them.
This happened the year the Oilers to finals (2006 I mean). Top 4 in both conferences all lost in the first round

Huh? Weren't the Canes #2 seed in the East that year? I know it happened in the West though with Ducks/Sharks/Oilers/Avalanche.

Only in the West. Ottawa, Carolina, New Jersey and Buffalo were #1, 2, 3, 4 respectively. #1 in both conferences losing in the first round has never happened (since there have been conferences, anyway...)

Both of the number 1 seeds got badly outplayed in round 1. Unreal.

Avs turn around isn't fully surprising based on how they started the season. They are a bit of a streaky team that is on the right side come playoff time. Also the MacKinnon factor is undeniable. He was the MVP of round 1.

Interesting that 2 of the 3 teams with the most points in the regular season would already be eliminated. After Sunday all 3 will have been eliminated.

1964 is the last time the two teams with the top records/seeds were eliminated in the first round I believe. As far as I can tell, 1961 is the only other time it has happened.

That was when you had only 2 semifinal series and a Cup Final

What, you think top seeds should be able to play terrible hockey and be given wins? Tampa and Calgary were not good.

No, but I think don't think ALL the lower seeds have to win.

Do we REALLY want another Habs/Flyers or Ducks/Wild 2003?

God forbid a higher seed other than the Islanders win.

Like, now I have little reason to care for 6 months. Teams that tried hard are paying the price.

It's almost like college basketball now.
