Is it training camp or the first game? And you have to sit out the year right if you don't? Was that the hold out clause in the new CBA?

I don't think there is any type of deadline you just can't play a regular season game without a contract.

    Found it

Under the new CBA, Restricted Free Agents who do not sign contracts by December 1 of a given year will be ineligible to play in the League for the balance of that season.

  4. Bergeron to Pittsburgh!!!!
Or Nik Zherdev to play with Malkin!!!

Also, if you play in a game in another league after the opening night of the season you can't play until next year. This came up with Kovalchuk last year and probably will with Zherdev and Bergenheim this year.

Edit: You can play but you would have to pass through waivers first.
