Tanguay - Sakic - Iginla
Gagne - Lecavalier - Richards
Nash - Thornton - Heatley
Smyth - Marleau - Shanahan
Kariya, Spezza(1), Staal (2)

Pronger - Niedermayer
Regehr - Redden
Blake - Foote
Jovanovski, Phaneuf (3)

Brodeur
Luongo
Turco

Most of the players in position, there's enough grit and size among most of the forwards to just disown a checking line. Not to mention most of those lines have previous chemistry of some sort or another, and they contain elite talent. The defense is based off of one d back, one d up style of play. Goalies are about the most obvious.

Gange- Sakic - Iginla
Nash- Spezza-Heately
Richards- Lecavalier- St Louis
Marleau- Thornton- Stall
Spares: Kris Draper, Sidney Crosby

1st line is a no brainer. Spezza deserves to be on the team, he's a creative player who will fill in Lemieux/Yzerman's previous role as the playmaker... if Nash is healthy, he's there and pairing Healty with the line is a no-brainer. The Tampa players have been solid this year and in my mind, have done nothing to change their status. Marleau has not only been scoring, but he's been a great two way player for San Jose... I think he's a much better fit than Shane Doan on the team. Stall's play has spoken for itself. Draper as a defensive specialist and Crosby to bring along for the ride so he can learn the ways of Team Canada.

Niedermayer- Blake
Pronger- Redden
Jovanoski- Foote
spare: Phaneuf

Regher is a left off for Foote, only for leadership and Phaneuf is there for the same reason as Crosby is

Brodeur
Turco
Joseph

Brodeur is there because of experience and Turco and Cujo have arguably been the best 2 goalies in the NHL (other than Kipprusoff).

hello? people
no iginla on top line please
there is just better choice, like heatley

Not a chance Sakic & Iginla were really good last time. The top line will be Gagne, Sakic and Iginla of course if they don't produce that will change.

Bertuzzi-Thornton-Iginla is too good of a line to not setup.

They could probably win on that line alone, what could stop that ?

assume this was the thread to voice my opinion. im an american and an unabashed canes fan - so i know my vote doesnt go far, but staal really deserves to be on this team. its not a discredit to either spezza or crosby. i didnt think for a minute crosby could live up to his hype, and ive been blown away with the way he has handled it. spezza is a critical part of the top line hockey, i saw them live in denver, and they werent the same without him....not that they really needed him that night. i just think after watching all three a ton that staal is the best o fthem right now. whats impressed me the most is when the game has been on the line, he wants the puck and makes it happen. dont know if you caught the highlights against tampa tonight, but he did one more time what he has done almost every night this year - take an ordinary team and make them win. i dont give him all the credit for the canes success this year, brindy has been great too (a lot of guys are stepping up) - but staal has been a monster. i know he is a bit raw at times... but he plays great both ways, he hits, he makes the right plays at the right times, scores the big goals, and makes the big play of the game repeatedly over and over.

again, i know im a homer - but he really has been the best of the three this season....and thats what it should be based on.

If Staal doesn't make this team then there is something wrong. Not only has he been better then the "kids" (Spezza, Crosby) but IMO he's been one of the best players in the entire league this year. It would be a joke if Draper or Doan make the team over him.

Gagné - Thornton - Nash dominated the World Championship this year.

Spezza and Heatley should play together, too.

Maltby - Draper - Smyth looked good as a checking line at the World Cup last year.

Ouch,,,, I bet a bunch of these guys will not be mentioned in the conference today. Starting with Nash (tax Squad), Crosby, Phaneuf, Spezza is a 50/50 chance type of player.

I see plenty of Spezza on the 1st line. Thats ridiculous! Ahead of Thornton, Sakic and Lecavalier? Hes good but not better than thses guy right now. In my books i even have Stall ahead of him.
