I once met a Ruslan Fedotenko and Artem Anisimov at the car show in the Javits Center. I only talked to Ruslan and told him to win the cup and he basically said that's the plan.

Shea Weber came into my job at Guitar Center when I lived in Nashville. Very nice guy, but didn't talk to him long. There's a culture at that store that you don't "gurm" celebrities. That is, you don't act starstruck and you don't take up a bunch of their time. I said my hellos, and I think he was really grateful someone recognized him, small talked for a minute, then moved on.

I really wish I hadn't given into the peer pressure to not gurm. I think it's a different thing when it's actually a famous musician vs a different celebrity who happens to be in a music store.

Edit: it wasn't me, but John Vanbiesbrouck came into the library in Mt Kisco when my mom was working there and my dad bumped into Sam Rosen in an airport. My brother attended a Maloney Brothers hockey camp.

I went to school with Max Talbot's older brother so I kinda grew up with him. Was at their house very often after school, though he was kind of the annoying younger bro back then.

Him, Letang, etc. are all from around here. I've seen them multiple times since with acquaintances in bars.

I live in the same town as multiple Habs players. Price, Markov, etc. I'm sure Shea will be out here soon as well. Occasional run ins at various restaurants etc but I don't go up and ask for anything. It's one of the nicer areas near their practice facilities that isn't in the city. Provides that suburb life with some privacy. As much as these guys can get out here anyway. Knowing Weber's aversion to media and his friendship with Price he'll be a "neighbor" soon enough.

As stated under my avatar, I grew up in NYC (younger, and then again in my early 20's) but I've been in and around Montreal for a while. That explains the 'French Connection'.

I have only met Matteau on the Rangers.

I've played hockey with and against Pat Maroon, Brandon Pirri, Bobby Ryan, Paul Statsny, Cory Conacher, and a few others.

I met Clark Gillies, Patty LaFontaine, and Marty Lyons at a charity event. Got to spend a lot of time with each, I remember thinking damn are Lyons hands huge crushed by hand like nothing. Gillies I thought would be taller but he was still in great shape. Patty whom I spent the most time with was great one of my all time favorite players--we spoke about everything the island, hockey and how he was feeling. Just a great down to earth guy.

Many years later I met with Graves--this guy is the Ultimate Ranger, very nice takes time to talk with everyone. Even stayed longer at the event so that everyone had the chance to meet and get an autograph.
Can't say enough good things about all of these gentlemen except thank you for your time and being such nice people.

As a dutchie we do not get the chance to easily meet NHL players, but one was here during the Lockout a few years back and i took the opportunity, very nice guy and he was not a big fan of Torts. Talked with him for over 20 minutes.

Me with Dale Weise when he was playing for Tilburg. Met his girl also, hot as hell.

I met Sean Avery at the game against Tampa in 07-08 where-in Jagr lost his teeth. He was very polite and enthusiastic. I told him I wanted to see more push-ups, and he laughed and told me that he had better things planned.

I met Petr Prucha at dagoon's signing/steakhouse in Jersey. Asked him if he thought Avery was going to come back when that was the rumor. Said he seriously doubted it but wasn't sure. I believe Petr was traded soon afterwards.

I met a lot of Rangers especially in Buffalo when we whip Buffalo every time we visit. But who other than Raanta was chuckling at my sign who said Raanta Claws. It was his mask and jersey on a T. rex smashing cars in a Santa hat. Got a puck throw to me

This is a cool thread idea.

Back when I was still in college, I was drinking and having some dinner at the campus bar on a late April Wednesday night. I was sitting there with my best friend who was bartending at the time shooting the ****, when I got a text from another friend of mine at a bar downtown that a huge bus just pulled up to the front of the bar, and a bunch of current Rangers at the time emerged and started buying copious amounts of alcohol, both for themselves and others at the bar.

As soon as my friend got off of his shift, we sped over there to meet our other friend who sent us the text. It turned out that a Ranger at the time chartered a bus for a few guys on the team to show them around his hometown and to have a good time. Supposedly Hank was among the group, but had left before my friend and I had gotten there.

The details from the rest of the night were fuzzy from this point forward, as I had already had a couple of drinks, as my friend had been giving me dollar pints at the previous bar. As far as who was in attendance, I remember Matt Gilroy, Chris Drury, Marc Staal, Brandon Dubinsky, Mats Zuccarello, Brandon Prust, and Brian Boyle being in the bar that night. I remember having a short chat with Dubi about the season, and wished him better luck next season. Drury and Staal didn't stay long and hopped on their bus soon after I got to the bar. Zucc, Gilroy, Prust, and Boyle all stayed behind.

Prust and Boyle were definitely the nicest and most outgoing of the group. They were buying rounds for themselves and a few of my female nursing major friends, and we're overall just having a great time with us. It was cool to talk hockey with these guys, as their understanding of the game was on another level. I remember a Montreal-Boston game being played. Boyle was definitely rooting for his hometown B's, and it was pretty funny to see his face after Montreal won the game in OT, as Prust was ribbing him pretty hard about it. By the time the 3rd shot and 4th beer of the night came around, I don't remember much else other than that Zucc and Gilroy were actually pretty quiet and sat at the bar talking amongst themselves most of the night. They did give an appreciative nod when I tipped my beer bottle over towards them and saw my Rangers hat on.

I couldn't say enough about how cool and nice Boyle and Prust were though. It was a pretty cool experience to see them roll through your college town uneventfully on a random Wednesday night in April. I tried to buy them a round to make up for the 4 or 5 they already bought my friends and I, but they vehemently refused when I even started to reach for my wallet. Prust even joked that he'd fight me if I tried to again. Boyle just nodded over to me and gave me a look that said that I shouldn't press my luck. Got a picture with Boyle out of it. Was just a really fun night that I'll never forget.

I've got a good story on how I didn't meet Zuke.

This was a few winters ago. I had flown up to NY over winter break to take my GF to her first game in MSG (I'm a NY native who moved to FL 5 years ago; met a girl and made her a big Rangers fan). We met up with my brother there, having a few adult beverages before and during the game.

Well, it turns out that my brother doesn't hold his liquor as well as I do. Long story short, he lost his wallet in the arena at some point in the night. Didn't even realize it until we were outside and heading towards a post-game bar. This wallet was a low cost replacement in itself, since he had lost them before. It was made out of paper and had an image of a hot dog on the outside. We talk to security outside of the arena and he tries to convince them to let him inside to look. A female security guard asks him what his wallet looks like and he replies boisterously, "IT'S A HOT DOG!" The look on her face was priceless. After explaining it just had a picture of a hot dog on it, I managed to convince them that I'd go inside and look under our seats, since I had my ***** together. I go inside and look to no avail.

When I get back outside, my GF comes up to me excitedly and says, "we just met Zuke!" It turns out that Mats, who was injured at the time, was spotted outside of the arena and spoke with a few fans. My gf and my brother were lucky enough to meet him and take pictures while I was inside looking for that goddamn hot dog wallet. They said that he was very nice, but was a little put off my brother's clear intoxication and "DUDE, YOU'RE SO ****ING GOOD I DON'T ****ING KNOW HOW YOU DO IT" comments.

tl;dr, I didn't meet Zuke because of a lost hot dog wallet

I find myself more excited about the wallet here than Zuccarello. That sounds amazing. I might buy myself one.

That is not true I am indeed a ranger

Absolutely, but not in the contractual sense.

Well....the Ranger list is short ....Red Sullivan when he was here back in the early 90's as a Flyer scout ...he signed some of his cards for me and some magazines I had . I also met the whole Flyer club at training camp and got tons of autographs from players and management while they were at our local golf club/resort for the Lindros training rookie camp . They were late arriving at the resort...it was my birthday....I got hammered LMAO....had some wild drunk conversation with Bernie Parent ...who I was told after was Bill Barber....he was nice about it though LOL....my birthday and all .

We got Lindros to sign sweaters...cards..Becketts...he was very obliging for sure....and my buddy took him and some guys out lobster fishing later that day....which I passed on . I stayed on the river bank with Kevin Dineen and a few other guys.

The next year we had the Senators in for training camp....was a blast...met Daigle/Yashin .
Then we had Florida here for training camp/mini camp....met lots of guys ...too many to mention .

I met Messier when he was in town as part of a Lays promo. He signed some awesome stuff for me . I was literally shaking while chatting with him . I was so nervous I forgot about going into the tent and seeing the Cup LOL and getting my pic taken with it .

I have met many guys that lived here on PEI that played in the NHL like Gerard Gallant...who plays at our local golf course . Dave Cameron...I played with and against him in softball over the years . I have also met Forbie Kennedy....a real cowboy in the Original 6 years .

I also met AHL enforcer extraordinaire Brett Gallant who had a cup of coffee with the Isles a couple of seasons ago . Met him on the golf course after he and his brother took 1200.00 off of Dion Phaneuf who has family here and a Summer mansion for him and Elisha .

Most hockey players are very humble and very approachable I have found . I know guys like Gerard Gallant and Dave Cameron would both sit down with a cold beer and talk hockey all day long....

I belong to a great Hockey Group on Facebook...there are many ex NHL players from the 70's in the group who join in on our posts and it is a lot of fun .Look us up... https://www.facebook.com/groups/NHLHockey1970to1979/ .....guys like Hardy Astrom/Gary Smmonds/Mike Veisor/Curt Ridley/Gary Croteau/Josh Guevrermont/CurtBennet/Warren Skorodenski/Ed Hospadar/Lorne Stamler/Borje Salming/Paul Stewart/Ron Duguay/Dennis Maruk/Jiggs McDonald/....all great guys that still love talking about the game back in the day .

I've met too many to list. Was my hobby to meet them and collect autographs when I was younger. I run into Sean Avery all the time during the school year. Must live in the area. Always cool to talk and makes me crack up every time.

I met Graves a few times at different events. Coolest time was back in early HS i went to one of his hockey camps for the youth. Got to skate with him and learn a few things from him.

I wasn't very good, so when it came to 2v2 drills, and I was in a group of 3 kids, he teamed up with me to play against the other 2 kids in my group. Got the sickest pass from him which led to me scoring a goal. Awesome memory. Got some pics and a couple signed practice jerseys from him.

Met Richter when I was younger.

Not Rangers but a cool experience was when I got to work with Chico Resch and Doc Emerick. Could not have been nicer gentlemen.

I've met Darius Kasparitis a few times, just on the street, most recently just a couple of months ago. Very, very nice guy, and built like a Mack Truck, even today (he's playing again, so he can play with the Lithuanian National Team).

I've met a lot of players. Sometimes at official things, sometimes at rinks in the off season.

I met Ales Kotalik and Chris Drury early morning before a playoff game randomly on the streets in NY. Separate encounters. Kotalik was eating a bagel.

I met and played a lot of summer hockey with Blake Comeau and Josh Bailey back when the Islanders still practiced in Syosset. They would get the zamboni driver to cut the ice late night and skate with them. They let a small group on the ice with them, maybe 5-6 additional people.

When I was younger I met virtually every Islander from 1993-2001. My next door neighbor played for the Islanders (David Volek) and even after he retired I got to hang around the team for a couple more years. So everyone from Flatley, Vukota and LaFontaine to Czerkawski, Hamrlik and Peca I got to meet and skate with most of them.

Met Ovechkin three separate times. Favorite one was the one that wasn't at an event; walking around Niketown on "fashions night out" I turn down an aisle and there's Ovie browsing sweats. I just nodded and said Ovie and he was very bashful and goes "hey, just chopping (shopping) some Nike". Thinking about it always makes me laugh.

I'm really hoping the Stars eventually offer some sort of opportunity for some military members to get to meet the team so I can meet Benn and Seguin. This is only my second year stationed in the Dallas area so I'm not sure how involved they get with the military community, but I like imagining the opportunity is going to come along.

Espo

In 1989 I was working as a Chef for a restaurant on 9w in Englewood Cliffs and a casino was holding a promotion. Phil and Alexis Arguello were there as the promo. It was just after Espo fired Michel Bergeron as head coach. Espo took over annndddd the rest is history. Anyway I had a picture taken with Espo then we sat down and we spoke for over 5 minutes. Very cool as I peppered him with questions..One I remember I mentioned how the firing was out of the blue and everyone was caught off guard. He laughed pretty long and hard. Great guy and a regular class act.

Had fun meeting Kreider one night out at a bar. A good friend of mine was his linemate in HS, so Kreids gave me some good jokes/nicknames to bring up. Met B. Boyle on the street once, which was when I really came to appreciate how ****ing huge that guy is.

This one isn't me, but my dad was pretty involved with hockey on Staten Island in the 70s. He and some friends were playing roller one summer and somehow Nick Fotiu ends up coming out and joining them. Schooled them pretty bad, by all accounts, and apparently the goalie dove out of the way of one particularly hard shot.
