IMHO, wrong conclusion. It is more (very) likely that Klein will be gone. Healthy Girardi, McI or Skjei will take a 2nd pair spot on the right side.

Yeah I think Klein has value in a trade and could be going for a younger replacement D in a package or something. Then it depends on what you get back but the right side is a bit squirrely still for awhile. Klein might be the best RD they have but if you get a guy who's not as good now but could be better in the future then you still go for it

Leslie, I definitely think you make a good point on the probability of Gorton being able to pull something off on the trade front. It takes two to tango and its perfectly possible that nothing will get done. Interesting article!

Gorton is doing great in his first full off season as GM keeping everyone entertained. With Vigneault, there is just no point in trying to predict the bottom 6. Vigneault is so shrewd in his ability to go "Here is a totally competent bottom 6 based on the evaluations and moves by my GM as well as their overall value, skill set, and performance in camp this week" to "Here is Tanner Glass playing 12 minutes a night and Danny Paille will bring some real gusto to this team" by November. Also, JT Miller is now playing 10 minutes a night.

If we're keen on tooting our toot and swooning our swoop and start the season with a well balanced group of bottom six forwards and a competent defense that can withstand the rigors of a full NHL season and keep it together during the playoffs, we have to sell low during the final month of the off season and make a few hard calls on players that are valuable and has trade value potentially making mistakes and opening holes in the roster.

In my onion, start the year with 14 forwards and have two sit and rotate in until Lindberg is healthy and definitely wait until the deadline to find a trading partner. Nash is fetching pennies on the dollar and a good RHD or RHD prospect is going to cost at least a few shiny dimes. The trade market is canned meat and fruit in syrup. I hope Gorton wait until everything is season, sweet and succulent before he harvests. More time to evaluate and make apricot jam until February and trade the jam for a nice leg of lamb or maybe a basket of fresh snapper.

Wait and see if Girardi and Staal are blessed by Jesus two pairs of feet on a sandy beach to one pair of feet when things get hard type of scenario and then make all the decisions near the deadline. Gorton hasn't given anyone the impression that he's dissatisfied with Staal or Girardi and wants them gone. Maybe he's playing his cards close to the vest but all taken together, bad market, not displeased with defense, no available RHD, I don't think anything is going to happen.

Gorton seems to be stocking the pantry instead of actually doing the mise en place and making decisions on what's being cooked, what ingredients are needed, and what to disuse.

Thoughts (on the content, not on the writing)?
Thanks for writing and sharing the article Leslie.

For feedback, contextually, the article was too much of an editorial piece. Sure it's a topic Ranger fans are thinking about, but give it some substance they don't have or don't know by adding some kind of insider or objective information.

Insider info, complete objectivity and a history of being reliable and believable is what gives Bob Mckenzie a god like status. Insider info is also difficult to come by, so I'd recommend sticking with your niche and exploiting it. There's value in being a specialist or you can grow your niche/resources over time and reach a broader market. The infamous Eklund is an example of where editorializing represented as insider info can gain you lots of attention if you do it loud enough, though there will be those who absolutely loath you. Shock radio gets attention because there are junkies who are hooked on it and because even bad press is good press.

There's lots of objective information freely available out there. Most fans don't take the time to crunch the numbers and connect the dots between them, though they'll read it and it'll be new information to find interesting. An example in your article would be if Pirri is to have a 3-5pt impact, back it up with numbers. Jim Boomer Gordon offers his opinion all the time, however he also backs it up or evaluates it with his "Stats Packs". Either way it gives him credibility and gives the listeners/readers information to contemplate on a topic they're interested in.

Heck adding more objective info could turn this article into 5 articles and give you a post a day for a week. Start Monday with the root article "what if the ranger don't trade"...."this week we'll explore this topic by looking at ...." daily topic concluding with the one we most crave on Friday with a summary.

Now go crunch some numbers and dig-up the insider goods, because I'm starving for some hockey ;):yo:

PS: I hope this was the kind of feedback you were looking for.

Also, JT Miller is now playing 10 minutes a night.

FWIW Daniel Paille pretty much covered games that Rick Nash didn't play last year because of injury. The Rangers did not have a lot of forward depth in Hartford. A lot of people weren't happy with Megna. Jensen had just joined the organization and Hrivik started the year slowly. Paille had been a decent 4th liner with the Bruins and that's why IMO he got the chance. He played 12 games and that was that and we're not going to be seeing him again.

This year the Rangers look like they will have forward depth in Hartford so the call ups should be higher quality than last year. I don't know if Tanner Glass is going to make the team out of camp (he's got his work cut out for him IMO) but if he does I don't think he'll be playing a lot.

My main issue with AV isn't so much about personnel--it's strategic. I don't think his defensive system is the best for the personnel he has. His man on man defensive system plays to the the weaknesses of Girardi, Staal, McIlrath and it might even give Holden a problem and when half your defenders struggle in your defensive system--you either have to get rid of those players (which would be almost impossible with Girardi and Staal) and replace them with guys who can or you have to adapt/hybridize the system you have to accommodate those who are struggling.
