Wagering a 3rd round pick on Mittelstadt may not be bad IF you think Minnesota has a system he can thrive in
The last one is nowhere near enough for Monahan and Tkatchuk. The value is off and would leave Calgary very thin at C, so they would say no.

Why would Buffalo give up on Mittelstadt for a 3rd round pick?
Mittelstadt is a great target for Minny. Guy certainly isn’t going to develop in Buffalo. He’s from Minny and played college there.

Not sure how a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd is "nowhere near enough" to make up the difference between Dumba and Fiala & Monahan and Tkachuk.

Because it isn’t.
Kadri, a good 2C, returned a top 4 D and a 3C. Monahan, who is a better 2C than Kadri but not good enough to be a 1C, would fetch more.
Any way you cut it, the part of the package that should be used to be paying for Monahan leaves way too little to be acquiring Tkatchuk.

Hell no to the last deal. Monahan? Fiala and Dumba are the two best players in that deal and you're adding to them? I get it, Wild needs centers but that doesn't mean you make shitty deals that makes the team worse.

Kadri is outscoring Monahan this season in a more defensive role playing with Saad and Burakovsky instead of Gaudreau and vs the North, what makes you think he's the better player?
Not sure Dumba is better.than Tkachuk, but.i absolutely think this is selling WAYYYY too low on Fiala.

Monahan is better. Not by a lot, but still better. Almost everyone on the Flames is struggling this season

The Rangers managed to get a late second for Andersson, who had more baggage and was less productive in the NHL. I’m sure Buffalo could manage to get a much more enticing deal if they packaged Mittelstadt with someone else, like Reinhart or Ristolainen.

Just saying he's better proves nothing whatsoever. Kadri has real substance to his game - much better defensively, he agitates and draws penalties, he can play physical, and like I said is outscoring Monahan. There's nothing that Monahan is better than Kadri at right now.

Tkachuck is the best player in that deal and it absolutely is not even remotely close.
At best, Middlestadt is worth a 2nd rounder at this point. More likely, he'd go for less than what Andersson brought in.
I feel pretty confident in saying that Andersson will be at least a bottom 6 player in the NHL. The same can't be said for Middlestadt - he's a boom or bust player, and he's trending dangerously close to bust category.
Yeah, right now. Like I said, everyone on the Flames is struggling. Under a competent coach, Monahan is better. If a team believes they have a system that Monahan can fit in, he is a better player than Kadri.
Also, let's not do that thing where we have to argue one player is better by arguing the other player is trash. It's stupid and pointless. Both players can be good, which I have already admitted. Kadri is a good 2C. Monahan is a fringe 1C out of necessity but would be a better 2C than Kadri in that role.

I don’t know if I would call Kerfoot and Barrie “a top-4 D and a 3C”.... more like a bottom-pairing PP specialist and a 3C/4C tweener.

To be fair, they were generally perceived as top 4 and 3C at the time of the trade. Many Avalanche fans would have (actually did) tried convincing you Barrie was a top pairing defenseman.
