What does the team look like in a few years?

What do you all think our roster looks like in three or four years? I’m thinking mainly in terms of our current roster plus our current prospects and next year’s draft picks as opposed to trades and free agent signings since those are a bit harder to predict (you can include those too if you want though). So what do you all think the lines and d-pairs look like in a few years, who do you think makes the team and where do they play in the lineup? Since there has been so much to talk about with the draft and prospects camp I thought this would be an interesting way to follow up with what we've seen from the prospects.

This is impossible to do, you can really only include players you assume to be core pieces for the long haul. Trades and signings are going to occur obviously. I can pencil in and guess some of the good D-prospects but forwards are hopeless.

(Aho, Tolchinsky, Wallmark potentially on RW?)

Hanifin-Faulk

Slavin-Pesce
Carrick

Lack
Maybe Ned or the ghost of Cam Ward

It is definitely a difficult thing to do, but I just wanted to see what everyone's thoughts/opinions were on this. I would have the exact same defensemen as you. We'll have to see if they end up that way. I question Mckeown the most at the moment, but that is because I have very little to go by. I definitely liked him when we first got him in the trade. I think our first rounders next year are going to be important for filling out the top six forwards. I agree on where you have McGinn. I'm rooting for Aho, Wallmark, Foegele, Smallman to do well. It wood be neat for Tolchinsky to workout for us as well. Looking forward to seeing how Karlsson does with the Checkers. Don't know enough about Cotton and Roy at the moment to say much about them. Basically, I'm pretty excited about our draft picks/prospects and wanted to see what you guys think about their future and our team. I know there are a lot of similar discussions going on right now, but it's always good to find something else to discuss during the offseason.

How incredible would that be to have an entire defense we drafted and developed.

Except Sakic isn't coming out of retirement. And nobody wears Koho anymore.

The fun thing going forward, is that there are two 1sts incoming next year I assume will be forwards, and probably 10+ million free'd up to actually pick up a free agent or two.

So around 17-18 things could be really really good for the Hamilton Hurricanes.

I'm looking forward to that as well, minus the Hamilton part.

I'm thinking, from our prospects up front, the only 3 I would have as locks to make the team in 3-4 years are McGinn (middle 6PF/aggitator), Bishop (#4C/PK specialist), and Woods (4th liner). Decent chance a couple of Wallmark, Aho, Tolchinsky, and McLovin pan out as well.

Skinner - Lindholm - xxxxxx
E Staal - J Staal - Tolchinsky/Aho/McLovin
McGinn - Rask - Nestrasil
Woods - Bishop - xxxxxx

Hanifin - Faulk
Fleury - McKeown
Carrick - Murphy
Biega/Slavin

Lack
Ward/Nedeljkovic/Altshuller

Lindholm may stay on the wing if we end up with Steel or Matthews from the coming draft. If we end up say with Jones, Tkachuk, or Puljujarvi I think we'll start the move to center for him.

I'm very interested to see what he can do with a Checker's roster that isn't a complete dumpster fire. Hopefully Ryan sticks in the AHL and can help as a playmaking 1C for our developing talent.

This was his first season in the AHL. So there isn't much to progress from yet. Same with McGinn.

Comparatively, Rask had 39 in his rookie AHL season, and scored 33 the next year in the NHL. So who knows.
