Hi,
I just want to introduce myself, my name is Eric Bergeron and I am with the Web Sim Hockey team. I will keep you informed about what's new with our game and answer any question you may have.
First, here are some basic information about who we are and what we do:
It began as an ambitious personal project in 2005. However, Web Sim Hockey quickly grew to become a reference in online hockey manager games in North America, especially in Canada, where we come from.
Officially launched in July 2009, the site has gained more and more stability and features over time as well as an ever-growing user base, which makes it today a vast hockey playground to share with thousands of other armchair GMs.
Last march, we launched a brand new version 2.0 of our game, which included massive upgrades and will allow us to continue to improve the game for years to come.
Along with the launch, we also announced our new partnership with the NHLPA, making us the only officially licensed online hockey manager out there. They recognized our passion and years of hard work, which now allows us to use the player pictures for an much improved feel of authenticity.
The goal of the game
You are put in the seat of the general manager (GM) of a professional hockey team. Your ultimate goal? Get the highest honors and be designated as one of the best managers in Web Sim Hockey.
To do so, you have to put together the greatest hockey team possible using draft picks, trades, and signing free agents.
You manage your team(s) on a daily basis, monitoring results and making the necessary changes to lineups, strategies, and game plans. You also oversee the team’s finances, arena, investments, team payroll, etc.
You do all this in a wide range of available league modes, such as Retro NHL, Fictional or Real NHL player sets, with over 20 customizable league rules that are voted or pre-selected by the league owner.
Each league is made of 12 or 24 GMs, no more, no less. You can play in as many league as you want, there is no limit.
A few facts and stats
- 500+ active leagues
- 10,000+ teams managed every dayy
- 99% renewal rate (league coming back season after season)
- Game of the year 2012, as voted on OnlineSportManagers.com.
- Laurentian University in Sudbury, Ontario, uses the simulator for their Sports Administration Program (Business of hockey course) as well as other schools in Quebec.
- Ability to import existing leagues from other simulators such as EHM, FHM, STHL, etc. We provide an excel file and the league owner assigns the players, coaches and draft picks to their team.
Our Community
There's alot going on in the community, whether it's on the forums, our facebook-like news feed, our embedded chat system or GM standings, there is always someone to talk to or something to read.
Each GM has attributes and statuses that ranks them in various fashions:
- Hockey attribute: The team owner sets a hockey objective for the season and you get a note on 100 depending on your results.
- Finance attribute: The owner evaluates your performance to bring in as much income as possible through Finance investments, arena management and payroll budget.
- Social status: We evaluate your social interactions with your peers: Messages/comments posted, news article written, etc.
- Participation status: In percentage, we track how each GM participates: % Of valid lineups, % of trade offers responded within 48hrs, % of daily connection, etc.
- Experience status: Gain experience points each time one of your team plays a game.
- Reputation status: Earn reputation points when you reach a milestone by winning a badge but beware as you can also loose points if you do not behave properly (being expelled of a league, quitting a league without notice, etc).
There is also a brand new Mentorship group of GMs that is always available to answer questions for anyone who is new to the game. You can talk with them directly for any tip you may need.
If you have a more intricate question, our team will answer your question with the utmost respect and efficiency.
How to start playing?
There are two main ways to play the game:
1- As a GM of a team in a brand new league (19.95$ for the first season, total of about 8 months of play including a 26 rounds player draft, and 14.95$ for the following seasons.)
2- As an Interim GM of an existing league (Free of charge for the current season, which means anything between a few days/week and a few months of play)
In both cases, you can be in as many leagues as you want, but no more than one team per league of course.
It's easy to manage a team thanks to our News Feed that keeps you informed and leads you to all the actions that needs your attention.
You could join one or two leagues as an Interim GMs and then if you like it, try the full experience and set your own franchise from the ground up.
Thanks to the HF Boards community for allowing us to be here and I hope you will enjoy our game,
Cheers!
