The Canucks basically have 2-3 set plays on the PP, and they don't do anything else, nobody has dynamic positions, and they only try to setup Miller coming in off the left-side wall, or a one-timer for Pettersson on the far-right wall. If neither happens Hughes takes a shitty wrist shot from the point.

Teams figured out a long time ago that when you clog up those cross-ice lanes to Miller or Pettersson you just get a lame Hughes wrist shot that does nothing. This was like, well before the all-star break.
But if they REALLY REALLY WANT it, they'll score right?

We can win more board battles. That's definitely a thing. But on the PP for example, it doesn't necessarily lead to goals. They'll have to reset less which is a positive. But as you pointed out, then they're falling back on the same predictable plays.

You know what creates motivation and engagement in players? When they go out and what their coaches tell them to do leads to success. Tocchet got buy in because his system kept them in games. When you are going out and jusy defending and not getting ozone time, it wears on guys. They need coaching to show them the big picture and give them some breathing room.

This team seems unable to have any guys that can control the puck down low.

PP, that shit is pure coaching unless you have like SJ level talent.

I think we need to move Hughes to the left wall and have somebody like Miller or Boeser at the top.

We don't need a power play coach, we just need players willing to put in the effort.

You have an extra player on the ice and you're getting beaten to every loose puck and losing every battle along the boards. That says it all.

That too but it seems more like strategic failure than a lack of effort. We can't even gain the zone entry with any success. It looks like they haven't even been taught the basics sometimes, but that can't be the case can it? They certainly don't do the common things like getting back to simply shooting the puck and crowding the net like other teams do when they struggle. The 2nd PP unit sucks too.

Good news - Cole wasn’t the worst player tonight!

Bad news - it’s because everyone else dropped to his level.

(…trying to keep the mood light)

The Reign of Error had massively, and I mean MASSIVELY, raised my capacity to tolerate any and all hockey related shit. Which is why I hardly get upset about what the team's doing now.

Bouchard has outplayed Hughes to an embarrassing degree. More disappointed in him than Pettersson.
Please, if it was Hughes that scored 3 goals off defender deflections we'd be nutting ourselves. It's just bounces at that point
