The single weirdest thing about the NHL is how you get Aaron Rome'd if you throw an open-ice check 0.21 seconds after the puck is moved, but somehow you can Ferland a defender against the boards like 4 seconds after he makes a breakout pass, as Nashville keeps doing to Hughes in this series.

The league seems to have made a concerted effort toward eliminating "the open ice hit" as a concept that is part of the game.

Thanks for posting this. I was thinking I was crazy that he was getting hit and mauled so much well after he plays the puck. Makes no sense at all.
