Sigh. It's a fan based league. Almost all the revenues come from the gate.

You thought all star games were low effort? Wait until empty arena "playoff" games.

It will be very different. But, I do think that having the Cup on the line will make it more than an All-Star Game effort.

Instead of the old laugh tracks we had on media they just pipe in crowd sound from old games and try to synchronize it? Everything else is digital and enhanced these days....

Looking at this from a game presentation standpoint: Sure, there may be no fans, but I'm sure they would want to have music during the games to keep as much of an atmosphere for the players as they can (also to try to cover up any bad words between play). They would also need someone working public address (in case there are clock problems).

As far as regular season, they should give the teams with an uneven amount of games that are in playoff contention the chance to play enough games to catch up. In the EC this would mean Carolina and the Islanders play 2 games and Florida plays one. In the WC Nashville, Vancouver, and Minnesota would play 2 games and Calgary 1. Any seeding issues can be done by point percentage. Then honestly they should abbreviate even the playoffs. 3 and 5 game series should be implemented. Just get this thing in the books, declare a champ, and move on.

From a team need it seems like it can work. Buffalo has a NHL quality rink, two practice rinks, and the needed hotel space all in the immediate area. Also they are close to Toronto, Pittsburgh, NY, Philly and Columbus. Players can fly in on chartered flights, take a bus, stay at the Marriott at harborcenter only with other teams, walk downstars for practice, walk across the skybridge for the TV game and stay in a self contained bubble. Players can eat and drink at 716/Tims and have a private area at Canalside for media or outside activities for players. Easy to protect the players/media by blocking off Perry/Washington and Scott/Main.

All very good points but...God I hope they don't eat at 716. That place has always been so underwhelming. It's a cool venue with crappy food.
