He was definitely my first or second option. Hard to say whether it'll work out, but given the information we do have about him and the available retreads it's hard to make the case that anyone else would be a better option.

You have to figure this means McMichael and Protas will be getting every opportunity to solidify their spots on the roster next year along with Alexeyev. I also suspect they will be completely revamping their power play which has been in need of a makeover for a few years.

Good job by MacLellan getting his guy well in advance of the draft and free agency. Time to get working on reshaping the roster for next year. I'm excited!

NHL experience is overrated in a head coach, and he's got more than Jared Bednar and Jon Cooper did when they were hired.

The whole Reirden saga makes me wary of coaches with no Experience.

The thing with Reirden was he only had 2 years at the AHL level head coach, Carbery had 5 years at the ECHL level, 1 at the OHL level, and 3 at the AHL level.

And I made a snide little jab at Reirden, I don't remember him being as in-demand as Carbery was.

I mean Bruce Boudreau had a pretty good run. Dale Hunter didn't suck either. Sure, Oates and Reirden sucked and Cassidy was here too soon but he's a solid coach now. I don't think history in this case determines the future. Its about the guy himself.

Leafs fan... he ran our PP and offensive systems. The PP was ranked #2 in the league under him, and the offense generally pretty good over that time. He did a very good job for us. Best of luck to you guys and Carberry going forward.

Also, we should temper our expectations a bit. He still has a roster that has anchors galore (Mantha, Backie, even Carlson) and should realistically be fighting for an 8th place spot at best.

Their top two centers are hot garbage at premium salaries.
