Strange given how he played last year, but probably doesn’t hurt and we probably aren’t worried about losing him on waivers if he gets sent down.

Alright. They must like him in the locker room enough to lay him NHL league min no matter if he’s in STL or Springfield.

He’s good for a solid 4-5 game stretch a few times a season. I haven’t been paying attention to Springfield much but Walker seems like a good dude so I’m sure he’s considered a valuable piece of that locker room and a good mentor to the young guys.

775,000 on a one way deal. Are we expecting him to be on the roster full time next season (I expect Vrana, Kapanen, Blais and potentially some others to be gone) or is he going to be an expensive AHL-player?

First call-up or press box. We always have a few expensive vets with good locker room precense in that AHL-NHL tweener space. Whether it's a 1-way deal or a high AHL salary, this is nothing new.

We had him in the AHL on a 1 way deal this year too, so I wouldn't read too much into how the contract will impact his ability to make the NHL roster. I'm happy with it. I think he is best used as an energy short-term fill in rather than a full time guy, but he very frequently makes a positive impact when used in that role. I also just enjoy watching him play.
